BACKGROUND: Disease-specific psoriasis-related quality of life (QOL) measures have recently been developed and used in several hospital-based investigations. However, little is known about the impact of psoriasis on QOL in people with psoriasis who are not referred by dermatologists.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to investigate psoriasis-related QOL in a large sample of members of the psoriasis associations from the Nordic countries, and to compare the results with those from psoriasis patients recruited from Nordic dermatologists or Nordic University clinics.

Vague notions concerning the radiation dose to the gonads during sclerosing treatment of varicoceles have lead to the unjust neglect of this form of therapy. Accurate measurements have shown that the dose is less than the dose to the female breast resulting from chest radiographs in two planes, if the treatment proceeds without complication. Although the dose is so low, an attempt has been made to evaluate the risk.

We report here an exceptional clinical finding of a 46,XY phenotypic female with complete gonadal dysgenesis, but who was found unexpectedly to have absence of the uterus and posterior vagina. Extensive review of current and past literature failed to confirm other reports of this variant form of complete gonadal dysgenesis.

There are numerous reports describing the pathology of the fetus and placenta in triploidy. Although gonadal pathology is described in many of these reports, consistent changes have not been noted nor is it clear whether genital ambiguity can be considered part of the triploid phenotype. A 21-year-old phenotypic male with ambiguous external genitalia and hypospadias was referred for cytogenetic studies. Exploratory laparotomy revealed presence of a small atropic uterus, unilateral gonadal dysgenesis with fallopian tubes on both sides and a cryptorchid testis on the left side. Splenic gonadal fusion is a rare anomaly that is frequently associated with skeletal abnormalities. Although rare, this entity should be considered in the differential diagnosis of scrotal masses in children. Routine frozen section prevents unnecessary orchiectomy. We describe a child with limb anomalies in whom splenic gonadal fusion presented as an incarcerated inguinal hernia.

We report on a family in which a brother and sister have pseudoachondroplasia and normal parents. The brother married a normal woman, and they have 2 daughters; one of them has typical changes of pseudoachondroplasia, the other is normal. The most likely explanation in this family is gonadal (germinal cell) mosaicism in one of the grandparents. Other reports of possible autosomal recessive pseudoachondroplasia are reviewed. It is likely that gonadal mosaicism is responsible for a small percentage of cases with what appears to be a new mutation for pseudoachondroplasia.
