First, the study collects 15,776 tweets that relate to personal opinions on transportation services posted between May 15 and June 15, 2020. Next, it applies text mining and topic modeling techniques to the tweets to determine the prominent themes, terms, and topics in those discussions to understand public feelings, behavior, and broader

The dynamic capabilities of county-level government in China during the outbreak of large-scale epidemics: a study based on three cases.

BACKGROUND: After China entered the stage of normalized epidemic prevention and control, county-level government became the leading force and responsible body for prevention and control. In some counties, the epidemic was initially sporadic but later evolved into large-scale transmission. This situation posed a severe challenge to their dynamic capabilities. The dynamic capacity of county-level government largely determines the effectiveness of dealing with large-scale epidemics. METHODS: This study selected three counties with a large-scale outbreak of COVID-19 in 2022 as samples for multi-c

Selection of nutrition status indicators for field surveys: the NHANES III design.

Planning a multipurpose survey in which nutritional status is assessed requires a series of scientific and practical decisions that are constrained by available resources of money and time and by the limits to what can be expected from the respondents. This paper describes the planning process for a multipurpose survey using our experience with the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) as an example. Ideally, the goals and objectives are well defined at the outset, and these guide the development of the survey content and statistical design. Because the needs for

Canadian educational resources about cannabis use and fertility, pregnancy and breast feeding: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Cannabis use in Canada is becoming more prevalent across all demographic groups due to increases in accessibility and lowered perceptions of harm. These patterns are mirrored among women of reproductive age, including women who are pregnant. Given increasing evidence for detrimental short- and long-term impacts of cannabis exposure on fetal, newborn and child outcomes, there is a need for high-quality, accessible resources providing reliable guidance and recommendations on this topic for both the public and healthcare providers. We will conduct a scoping review to identify and ch

'It's not discrete, it's not going to be easy': A qualitative analysis of the practical application of syndemic theory in healthcare.

Over the past decade, multiple federal, state and local government mission statements have employed syndemic theory in proposed policies and practices. We interviewed 20 key informants from academia, non-governmental organisations and local government public health officials on range of topics relating to how syndemic theory is shaping healthcare policy and practice. Informants highlighted the role of syndemic theory in providing person-centred services. They also provided examples of HIV-related care services and organisational change that have been influenced or shaped by syndemic theory. Ho

Fighting COVID-19 in China's Greater Bay Area: how do different policy styles affect policy effectiveness?

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how political systems influence public health policy effectiveness. This study examines how different governance styles within China's Greater Bay Area shaped pandemic responses, comparing Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), and Macau SAR as representatives of society-mobilizing, market-facilitated, and targeted-control styles, respectively. This quasi-natural experiment setting controls for cultural and geographic variables while allowing for meaningful institutional comparison. METHODS: Using a mixed-methods ap

Sex and the streets: the open secret of sexual abuse among Pakistan's two million street children.

BACKGROUND: About two million children live on the streets in Pakistan. Their complicated past and dire living conditions make them susceptible to many psychological and physical problems, including sexual abuse. MAIN BODY: With little research on the topic, the prevalence of sexual intercourse among street children is reported to be as high as 88% in Pakistan. With commercial sex a common practice among the street children, public places such as bus terminals and parks have become foci of prostitution and sexual exploitation. A growing concern is the spread of HIV/AIDS among the affected chi

Mapping Human-AI Teaming in Risk Analysis: Role Evolution, Thematic Landscape, and Governance Mechanisms From News Media.

Human-artificial intelligence (AI) teams are increasingly embedded in risk analysis, yet news reports repeatedly portray meaningful oversight as fragile when review conditions are poorly designed. This study examines how public discourse has portrayed the roles, failure modes, and governance mechanisms of human-AI teaming in risk analysis. Drawing on 184,282 AI-related Factiva news articles (1956-2025), we use a funnel-shaped mixed-methods design to identify 3571 articles describing human-AI interaction in risk-analytic contexts. Structural topic modeling identifies 20 thematic clusters and th

Beating the Odds: Successful Establishment of a Phase II/III Clinical Research Trial in Resource-Poor Liberia during the Largest-Ever Ebola Outbreak.

It has been argued that a country such as Liberia, not fully recovered from the devastation of decades of civil unrest, lacked the appropriate ethical and regulatory framework, basic human and health care services, and infrastructure to carry out clinical trials according to international standards of quality during a public health emergency. However, as Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea were being ravaged by the largest and most devastating Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak ever recorded, the topic of conducting clinical trials of experimental vaccine and treatment candidates in these resour

A sentiment analysis and topic modeling of weibo discourse on public perceptions of breast cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Social media has emerged as a transformative platform for data-driven health communication about breast cancer. To reveal social cognition and enhance public awareness of breast cancer, this study analyzes emotional tendencies and core topics in Weibo discourse. METHODS: A web crawler was employed to collect 185,486 Weibo posts containing the keyword "breast cancer", with 134,588 posts retained after preprocessing. The discourse analysis involved, first, a lexicon-based sentiment classification of the text data, and subsequently, the application of Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)
