BACKGROUND: Antibiotic prophylaxis for surgical procedures is a common practice among otorhinolaryngologists. Most American Rhinology Society members use antibiotics routinely in septoplasties, even though the need for this practice in rhinological surgery is controversial. To study tobacco consumption practices in north-Indian population, a community-based, stratified sampling survey using validated interview schedule was performed in rural/urban areas of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Sixteen cigarette smokers who had developed complete anosmia were questioned about their smoking habits. Four subjects increased their cigarette consumption, 8 were unchanged and 4 decreased. The development of anosmia has no consistent effect on cigarette smoking.

We investigated whether a simplified habit reversal treatment eliminates fingernail biting and related oral-digital habits exhibited by individuals with mild to moderate mental retardation.
