Promising practices for the collaborative planning of integrated health campaigns from a synthesis of case studies.

A combination of public health campaigns and routine primary healthcare services are used in many countries to maximise the number of people reached with interventions to prevent, control, eliminate or eradicate diseases. Health campaigns have historically been organised within vertical (disease-specific) programmes, which are often funded, planned and implemented independently from one another and from routinely offered primary healthcare services. Global health agencies have voiced support for enhancing campaign effectiveness, including campaign efficiency and equity, through collaboration a

Integration of family planning into HIV services: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The unmet need for safe and effective contraception still remains high. In 2017, about 25% of women of childbearing age who wanted to avoid pregnancy in the developing world were not using a modern contraceptive method. The biggest proportion (21%) of these women live in Sub-Saharan Africa. Little attention has been paid to the health systems factors impacting the integration of family planning into HIV services. This systematic review intends to document health systems factors constraining or facilitating the integration of family planning into HIV services. METHODS: A search of

'It won't catch us off guard this time': interview study exploring use of mental health care plans for birth and the postpartum period within perinatal mental health services.

BACKGROUND: Evidence shows that advance care planning has the potential to reduce involuntary admissions and empower service users. The perinatal period is a time of heightened risk of relapse of mental illness, and, in this context, many perinatal mental health services routinely offer pre-birth mental health care planning meetings. AIMS: We aimed to explore the experience of perinatal mental health service users and their partners following a pre-birth planning meeting and the writing of a perinatal care plan that included advance care plans for birth, postpartum and in case of crisis. MET

Stroke care in the home: the impact of social support on the general health of family caregivers.

BACKGROUND: Throughout the stroke rehabilitation process, community care is one of the most important elements. Learning to live with and take care of a family member with a stroke is immensely complex and demanding. Without appropriate support, family caregivers are at risk of their own general health decreasing, thus becoming a patient themselves - the second patient in the family. AIM: The aim of this study was to examine aspects of social support available to family caregivers during the first 12-week transitional period following hospital discharge. DESIGN AND METHOD: This study adopted

Workforce Wellbeing and Future Pandemic Preparedness in Emergency Departments: Lessons Learned While Caring for Persons Experiencing Homelessness During COVID-19.

Background/Objective: Research has indicated that providing care during the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted healthcare providers' wellbeing and burnout. Much of the literature has focused on emergency department (ED) physicians and nurses, including the distinct challenges they faced caring for persons experiencing homelessness (PEH), including addressing unmet basic needs, limited discharge options, and disruptions to community-based health and social services during the pandemic. Comparatively little research has examined the experiences of other multidisciplinary team members caring f

Planning a multi-site, complex intervention for homeless people with mental illness: the relationships between the national team and local sites in Canada's At Home/Chez Soi project.

This research focused on the relationships between a national team and five project sites across Canada in planning a complex, community intervention for homeless people with mental illness called At Home/Chez Soi, which is based on the Housing First model. The research addressed two questions: (a) what are the challenges in planning? and (b) what factors that helped or hindered moving project planning forward? Using qualitative methods, 149 national, provincial, and local stakeholders participated in key informant or focus group interviews. We found that planning entails not only intervention

Reproductive decision-making experiences of Australian adults with neurofibromatosis type 1 and schwannomatosis.

Individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 and schwannomatosis (NF) often face difficult reproductive choices when family planning; however, their experiences and the barriers and enablers to reproductive decision-making are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions and experiences of individuals with NF in Australia and inform the development of practice recommendations and resources. Focus groups with adults with NF were conducted using a semi-structured interview schedule developed by the research team. Partners were also invited. The focus groups were recorded

Self-Control, Plan Quality, and Digital Delivery of Action Planning for Condom and Contraceptive Pill Use of 14-24-Year-Olds: Findings from a Clinic-Based Online Pilot Randomised Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Inconsistent use of the contraceptive pill and condoms contributes significantly to poor sexual health outcomes for young people. There is evidence that action planning interventions may improve pill and condom use, but this approach is not systematically used in sexual healthcare. This study is the first to assess acceptability and feasibility of evaluating a digital intervention to support action plan formation for three sexual health behaviours with clinic attendees. It also considered the role of trait self-control and whether the intervention supported production of quality pl

Implementation and resource needs for long-acting PrEP in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Several low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are preparing to introduce long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (LAP). Amid multiple pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) options and constrained funding, decision-makers could benefit from systematic implementation planning and aligned costs. We reviewed national costed implementation plans (CIPs) to describe relevant implementation inputs and activities (domains) for informing the costed rollout of LAP. We assessed how primary costing evidence aligned with those domains. METHODS: We conducted a rapid review of CIPs for oral PrEP and

Developing a research agenda on exercise and physical activity for people with limb loss in Canada.

PURPOSE: There is a lack of high-quality evidence about the effects of exercise or physical activity interventions for adults with lower limb amputations (LLAs). A planning meeting involving stakeholders (i.e., people with LLA, community advocates, health care providers, researchers) was organized to identify key research priorities related to exercise and physical activity for people with LLAs. METHODS: We used a collaborative prioritized planning process with a pre-meeting survey and 2-day virtual meeting that included: identification and prioritization of challenges or gaps; identification

Evaluating Transition Readiness in Older Adolescents and Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes.

For older adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 diabetes, successful transition from pediatric to adult diabetes care requires ongoing planning and support. Yet, the transition to adult care is not always smooth. Some AYAs struggle to leave pediatric care or experience significant gaps between pediatric and adult diabetes care. The use of diabetes-specific transition readiness assessments can inform transition planning and support successful preparation for adult care. This study evaluated transition readiness in a diverse sample of AYAs nearing transition to adult diabetes care. Fin

Everyone wants to help the uninsured, but who will pay the bill? Why a national lottery may make sense.

There is a growing dissatisfaction with the American health care system that results primarily from the problem of the uninsured. This problem threatens not only the health of the uninsured, but also the health of our hospitals and ultimately of all Americans. There is a growing support for a universal health care plan, but less support for new taxes to pay for such coverage. One method to pay for universal health care may be to use the proceeds of a national lottery. In addition to possibly being more politically acceptable, there are a number of specific benefits that may follow from such a

Assessing the Provision of Person-Centered Contraceptive Care at Publicly Supported Clinics Providing Contraceptive Services in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: We sought to understand the extent to which the contraceptive care provided at publicly supported family planning clinics in the United States aligns with aspects of person-centered care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a descriptive study with a national sample of U.S. family planning clinics between November 2022 and December 2023. We measured person-centeredness by the scope of services offered, including the extent to which providers solicit and prioritize patients' contraceptive intentions, preferences, and goals; the dispensing protocols for various contraceptive metho

National surgical, obstetric, anaesthesia and nursing plan, Nigeria.

Recent evidence suggests that strengthening surgical care within existing health systems will strengthen the overall health-care system. However, Nigeria's national strategic health development plan 2018-2022 placed little emphasis on surgical care. To address the gap, we worked with professional societies and other partners to develop the national surgical, obstetric, anaesthesia and nursing plan 2019-2023. The aim was to foster actions to prioritize surgical care for the achievement of universal health coverage. In addition to creating a costed strategy to strengthen surgical care, the plan
