Spontaneous hemothorax in a 20-year-old boy was caused by rupture of an immature teratoma of the mediastinum. The tumor bled spontaneously into the right pleural space. Blunt chest injury is commonly observed in the Pediatric Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit since up to 30% of children with traumatic injury sustain injury to the thorax. Intralobar sequestration is a rare abnormality usually diagnosed at later age after a history of recurrent pulmonary infections. We present a case of a 55-year-old man in whom both hemoptysis and massive hemothorax were the initial presenting symptoms. This report shows that intralobar sequestration can have a dramatic course of disease, and for this reason resection of the sequestered tissue should be considered in all patients.

We report a case of a 17-year-old patient with an haemothorax related to an intra-abdominal spleen rupture. The nature of this haemothorax is unusual and the problem is how to obtain the etiology in this case. The spleen was in intra-abdominal position on all radiological examinations and was the source of bleeding. Therefore, laparotomy is the only convenient therapy.

Hemothorax can be caused by rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hemoperitoneum is a well-known cause of death caused by rupture of a primary HCC lesion. Rupture of a HCC metastasis has not been adequately described. This is the first report of a HCC patient who died of hemothorax due to rupture of a pleural metastasis. The patient, a woman, died in respiratory failure 2 wk after rupture of her HCC metastasis in the pleura. Autopsy revealed moderately differentiated HCC in the liver, lung, and pleura. We discuss treatment options for ruptured pleura-based HCC metastases.
