This study was undertaken to determine the course of unconjugated plasma estriol (E3) concentrations after 40 weeks' gestation and to assess whether the latter may be used as a first-line test in the management of term pregnancies with poor dates and prolonged gestation. Plasma E3 was measured twice weekly in 134 women with well-dated pregnancies of 40 weeks or more and in 213 women with pregnancies of unverified age but believed to be in excess of 40 weeks from the last menstrual period. The obstetric management was based upon twice weekly determinations of urinary E3 and antepartum heart rat

The medical records of 403 infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit were reviewed. All were postterm (greater than or equal to 42 weeks' gestation) infants or infants who were full term (greater than or equal to 38 weeks' gestation) and had clinical diagnoses associated with the neonatal postmaturity/dysmaturity syndrome. Data collected from these 403 records were used to generate frequency distribution tables for a variety of obstetric and neonatal outcome variables. Regression analyses were used to assess associations among these variables and the presence or absence of fetal mal

The Safe to Sleep campaign started in 1994, reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 40% to 60%. However, an undesirable consequence has been a 400% to 600% increase in positional head deformities. We review the risks for positional plagiocephaly or brachycephaly, treatment modalities, and when to refer. Differential diagnoses for non-positional deformities are discussed. Risks for positional head deformities include prenatal, perinatal and postnatal factors. These include torticollis, inadequate tummy time, abnormal intrauterine positioning, premature or postmature birth, p
