BACKGROUND: Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is characterized by severe ocular allergic inflammation that may have a poor visual prognosis. Due to the high frequency of the presence of atopic dermatitis (AD) in VKC, most systemic parameters are dependent on the clinical severity of AD.

OBJECTIVE: Neonatal septicemia is a critical disease in neonatal period. Its incidence among live births is between 1 per thousand and 8 per thousand. Mortality of neonatal septicemia may be as high as 50% for infants who are not treated. The early signs of septicemia in the newborn are generally nonspecific. Blood culture and the other clinical diagnostic measures are not sufficiently sensitive. Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in man is associated with an increase in the incidence of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). Nitric oxide (NO) is an unstable free radical that functions as a cytotoxic agent secreted by macrophages to kill cancer cells.
