Uterine perforation by a contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) is a relatively rare event. These events may result secondary to mechanical force applied during placement (primary perforation) or migration by uterine contractions or surgical manipulation after placement (secondary perforation). A 33-year-old woman with an IUD placed 9 years before admission visited the emergency department with an early pregnancy and a 3-day history of vaginal bleeding. Vaginal examination revealed IUD strings visible at the cervical os, and transvaginal ultrasound confirmed the presence of an IUD in the lowe

Intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD) are widely used as a reversible method of contraception. Although uterine perforation caused by an IUCD is rare, in some cases, the device may migrate to the pelvic/abdominal cavity or nearby structures. When the IUCD migrate to the bladder, it can lead to various symptoms. These include pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen, difficulties or pain during urination, frequent urinary tract infections, and the development of bladder stones. This article presents a case report of a 24-year-old woman with an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) that ha

The current literature suggests that serious complications after intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) insertion are rare. We present a rare case of a migrated IUCD into the rectosigmoid colon. A 33-year-old woman (parity one) presented to the emergency department with a three-day history of flank pain, upper urinary tract infection symptoms, and a low-grade fever. Differentials initially included renal colic or pyelonephritis. However, subsequent computed tomography of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder (CT-KUB) and magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis (MRI-pelvis) showed a migrated IUC

BACKGROUND: Intrauterine devices (IUD) are widely used all over the world. One of the most serious complications is uterine perforation, and it is very rare for the IUD to penetrate the bladder after perforation. Here we report two cases of IUD migration into the bladder, and review the literature to analyze the possible causes and solutions of such complications.
CASE PRESENTATION: Case NO. 1 is a 37-year-old female who presented lower urinary tract symptoms for a year. Cystoscopy showed that a strip of metal penetrated into the bladder, and the surface was covered with stones. The patient u

Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion is a long-acting and one of the most effective modes of reversible contraception. Complications that most commonly arise following IUD insertion are failed insertion, pain, vasovagal reactions, infection, menstrual abnormalities, and expulsion. In this paper, we present the case of a woman who experienced hydronephrosis due to the migration of IUD into the ureter after 30 years of insertion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the third such case reported in the literature.

OBJECTIVES: We retrospectively analyzed six cases between 1986 and 2002 that had been operated within our unit with the diagnosis of migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD). Although an IUD is an effective contraceptive method, the migration of one is a rare but serious complication. The aim of this report is to emphasize the management and therapy of this complication.
CASES: Out of six patients, three patients with occurring pregnancy, two with pelvic pain and one with a missing IUD incidentally diagnosed during a routine follow-up gynecological examination, were admitted to

Translocation of intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) from the uterus rarely occurs, which can lead to serious complications. Here the authors reported three cases of IUD migration from into the ureter, bladder, and peritoneal cavity that caused hydronephrosis, respectively. All the three patients received minimally invasive surgeries and recovered.

BACKGROUND: Intravesical migration represents an uncommon complication of intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. We present the case of an IUD that migrated to the urinary bladder, causing significant sexual complaints.
CASE REPORT: A 38-year-old woman presented with complaints of gradually evolving dyspareunia and recurrent urinary tract infections during the past 12 months. She reported an IUD insertion 18 months before. Further detailed evaluation revealed disorders in all sexual domains. Imaging and cystoscopy detected the presence of IUD in the urinary bladder. Under anesthesia, the IUD wa

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine devices (IUDs), both hormonal and nonhormonal, are widely used contraceptive methods, with approximately 20% of reproductive-aged women worldwide utilizing them. Although IUDs are generally considered safe and effective, complications such as displacement and migration can occur. We report a rare case of copper IUD migration into a cesarean section scar niche.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with complaints of lower abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal bleeding. She had received a T-shaped copper IUD 2 years prior. Transva

The intrauterine device (IUD) is a widely utilized method of contraception known for its high efficacy, safety profile, and long-term effectiveness. Despite its favorable characteristics, rare but potentially serious complications may occur, such as uterine perforation and device migration into adjacent pelvic or abdominal structures. One of the less frequent but clinically relevant complications is intravesical migration, where the device perforates the uterine wall and erodes into the urinary bladder. This can result in chronic lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections

Migration of intrauterine devices (IUD) is uncommon; however, it can lead to increasingly severe complications, ranging from simple pelvic pain to potentially lethal septic shock. Therefore, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches combining endoscopic paraclinical examinations with surgical intervention need further investigation by clinicians to ensure better management. This study presents 2 rare cases where a migrating intrauterine device at the rectal level was removed via hysteroscopic approach and a second one was removed via laparoscopy.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are very common as a method of birth control. By adding progesterone (levonorgestrel), a decrease in the risk of complications has been documented, including the risk of perforation. Even though only a few complications have been described, adjacent organs may be involved in the case of migration-a life-threatening situation. A 45-year-old G4P2 woman was seen in our clinic for LNg-IUD removal, according to the medical instructions. Her main complaints were abdominal discomfort, low back pain, and recurrent menorrhagia. A "lost" IUD was initially suspected; the patie

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the possible aetiology, clinical characteristics, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and prognosis of intrauterine device (IUD) migration into the bladder.
CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old woman presented with recurrent symptoms of urinary urgency and dysuria. Computed tomography scans (CT) revealed that one arm of the IUD had migrated into the bladder, causing bladder stones. The patient underwent transurethral bladder lithotripsy and stone removal, laparoscopic bladder repair, and hysteroscopic removal of the IUD. The IUD was completely removed, and the bladder stone

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration into the urinary bladder is a rare but significant complication that may mimic chronic cystitis or recurrent urinary tract infections due to nonspecific symptoms such as dysuria, hematuria, suprapubic pain. A 31-year-old multiparous woman presented with persistent lower abdominal pain, fatigue, and urinary symptoms. Imaging and cystoscopy revealed a migrated IUD embedded in the bladder wall. Transurethral removal failed due to fibrosis, but laparoscopic removal was successful, with complete symptom resolution. This case underscores the need to consider IUD m

BACKGROUND: The presence of a niche after cesarean section is a common and mostly asymptomatic finding. However, it can cause symptoms or result in impaired fertility or obstetric complications in following pregnancies. At present there is no uniform consensus on when to treat and which way of repair is most suitable. The aim of this systematic review of literature was to provide an overview of current knowledge about cesarean scar niches and about the modalities of niche repair.
METHODS: On the second of January 2019 Pubmed and Cochrane databases were searched for relevant studies published

BACKGROUND: The intrauterine device (IUD) is an efficient and commonly used long-term contraceptive method. Although generally safe, its rare yet serious complications-uterine perforation and secondary intra-abdominal migration-can lead to injuries to adjacent organs, such as intestinal perforation, obstruction, or necrosis. IUD displacement into the small intestine causing necrosis is an extremely rare clinical event, with limited reports in the literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes an 81-year-old female who was admitted due to upper abdominal pain for one day and had a histor

We aim to present a rare case of a missing intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) that was found in the terminal ileum by laparoscopy and was managed initially by laparoscopy and then proceeded to laparotomy. A 29-year-old female who had a copper IUCD inserted by a senior gynecologist presented to the clinic with pelvic pain and discomfort. She underwent laparoscopy for IUCD removal. Intraoperatively, the IUCD was discovered to be embedded in the terminal ileum, and therefore, laparoscopy was converted to an open laparotomy. The patient was readmitted multiple times because of abnormal fluid

Introduction Intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD) are a commonly used, reversible, contraceptive method. Complications from insertion rarely include migration into the bladder. We report on two cases of intravesical migrated IUCD and present an algorithm for management based on recently published data. Materials and Methods The case records of two patients who underwent surgical procedures for migrated IUCD into the bladder were reviewed. A Pubmed search was performed to identify similar studies. A total of 25 papers met the criteria for inclusion. Results Both cases were managed with lap

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are commonly used contraceptive methods. Uterine perforation and device migration are rare but have been/are previously described as adverse events. Migration of the perforated IUD into the bowel is rare and generally requires surgical removal. We describe the endoscopic removal of an IUD embedded in the rectal wall in an otherwise healthy patient. Extraction of the IUD was uncomplicated, well tolerated, and followed by same-day hospital discharge. No prophylactic hemostasis or antimicrobial coverage was needed. We also present a comprehensive review of the reported
