BACKGROUND: NASH is expected to be a major target disease in near future, although we are too short in information to realize NASH. In this study, we revealed the prevalence of fatty liver, which is a background disease of NASH, in Kyoto. Then we made histological diagnosis of NASH from chronic liver disorder with fatty liver.

The first successful living-donor lobar lung transplant (LDLLT) in Japan was performed at Okayama University in October 1998 after a long period of waiting for the legalization of thoracic organ transplantation. By May 2003, a further 41 lung transplants had been performed; 28 from living donors and 13 from cadaveric donors. PURPOSE: We report the successful management of a 10-year-old girl with intractable frontal lobe epilepsy by using lidocaine tapes and continuous subcutaneous lidocaine infusion.
METHODS: This patient's seizures were refractory to conventional antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and mexiletine, but they responded well to the intravenous infusion of lidocaine. This paper discusses the problems of Japanese under- and postgraduate education of psychiatry, and indicates several important points for psychiatric education. Most medical schools give lectures on psychiatry to fourth and fifth graders. Lecturing hours average 2.3% of the total lecture time for medical students. Five cases of centipede bites are reported. The patients showed erythema in response to swelling, and/or paresis around the sites. They had been bitten by Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans Koch or Scolopendra subspinipes multidens Newport. There was no species-specific reaction to the bite, so the variety of reactions seen was thought to be due to patients' individual differences. Treatment included local anesthesia, systemic and/or topical corticosteroids, and administration of a biscoclaurin alkaloid, as needed according to the severity of the lesions.

A review of the history of diaper use in various countries reveals a number of difficulties that have been confronted. The clinicopathological features of 18 Japanese patients with Burkitt's lymphoma are reviewed. Six patients were 12 years of age or younger. Seven patients presented with abdominal masses and seven with jaw tumours.
