[Carcinosarcoma of the renal pelvis in a horseshoe kidney: about a case].

Carcinosarcoma of the renal pelvis is a rare tumor, and its development in a horseshoe kidney makes it even more special. This is the first case reported in the literature of a renal pelvis carcinosarcoma developed in a horseshoe kidney and diagnosed on macroscopic hematuria.

Squamous cell carcinoma in the renal pelvis of a horseshoe kidney.

We report a rare case of squamous cell carcinoma in the renal pelvis of a horseshoe kidney. An 80-year-old woman was referred to the National Nagano Hospital for the examination of occult blood in her urine. Microscopic hematuria was found, but pyuria was not seen. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass in the left renal pelvis of the horseshoe kidney. No renal stone or hydronephrosis was found. Cytopathological examination in the voided urine specimen was positive. Left nephroureterectomy with the splitting of the isthmus of the horseshoe kidney was performed without

Intestinal metaplasia with dysplasia in pelvis of a horse-shoe kidney.

Intestinal metaplasia of renal pelvis occurs uncommonly and is usually secondary to persistent chronic irritation or inflammation. It is considered to be precursor of adenocarcinoma. A case of horse-shoe kidney which showed extensive intestinal metaplasia and focal severe dysplasia in the renal pelvis is being presented. The metaplastic change in this case is being attributed to persistent inflammation due to more chances of stasis in horse-shoe kidney coupled with renal calculi.

Hyperkeratotic squamous epithelium of pelvis and ureter in solitary kidney.

A case of hyperkeratotic squamous epithelium of the distal renal pelvis and ureter, clinically identifiable as leukoplakia, is reported in a solitary kidney. Because of the need to conserve renal parenchyma in this patient, the lesion was treated conservatively at operation after careful exploration and full thickness biopsy failed to reveal malignancy. Close monitoring of this potentially premalignant lesion has documented no progression at twenty-five months.

Bilateral hydronephrosis and acute kidney injury secondary to pelvis lipomatosis.

A 57-year-old African American male presented with vague abdominal pain and bilateral flank pain. The patient was found to have bilateral hydronephrosis and significant renal function impairment secondary to pelvic lipomatosis. Pelvic lipomatosis represents a clinically-diagnosed unique cause of ureteral obstruction and subsequent renal impairment. We present a case report of newly diagnosed pelvic lipomatosis, the clinical and imaging characteristics for diagnosis, and its conservative management with serial ureteral stent exchanges.

[Subepithelial hematoma of kidney pelvis and ureter: Antopol-Goldman lesion].

The subepithelial hematoma of the renal pelvis and ureter was described by Antopol and Goldman in 1948. Hematuria and filling defect in the renal pelvis are the most consistently recurring clinical and radiological findings. Only 21 cases were found in the literature on the subject and all of them were treated surgically, usually with partial or total nephrectomy. Here we present a case of Antopol-Goldman lesion which was treated conservatively.

[Is retrograde ureteropyelography necessary before kidney pelvis-plasty in childhood?].

For routine evaluation of ureteropelvic junction obstruction in children, sonography, voiding cystogram, IV pyelogram and a renal scan in combination with administration of furosemide are available. Furthermore, often preoperative antegrade or retrograde ureteropyelography is performed. However, the significance of retrograde ureteropyelography in the world literature remains controversial. Therefore, we reviewed the records of 41 children who underwent a pyeloplasty in our department. In 9 children the ureter was visualized by IV pyelogram, voiding cystogram or antegrade ureteropyelography; a

Primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of renal pelvis in solitary pelvic kidney.

Mucinous adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis is a rare tumor. We report the case of a fifty-three-year-old man with this unusual cancer and review the literature. Usual features of this tumor include long duration of symptoms, an association with calculi and hydronephrosis, and a preoperative appearance of an inflammatory condition.

[Augmentation of the urea retention capacity of the kidney in protein-deficient sheep: role of the kidney pelvis].

Sheep fed a low-protein diet reduced renal urea excretion. An important fraction of urea perfused into the renal pelvis via the ureter, is reabsorbed through the pelvic epithelium.
