We have developed a novel palladium-catalyzed method for synthesizing quinolinyl lactones via double C(sp3)-H functionalization. This atom-economical strategy utilizes a bifunctional 2-iodobenzoic acid reagent in a single catalytic cycle. An optimized solvent mixture of hexafluoro-2-propanol and acetic acid significantly enhanced reactivity and selectivity. This work provides a valuable, site-selective pathway for creating complex quinolinyl lactone scaffolds.

We report a study of the sensitization rate to sesquiterpene lactone (SL) mix at the National Skin Centre, Singapore. This is a retrospective review of 1256 patients who were patch tested to SL mix (0.1%) from January 1995 to December 1997. 18 out of 1256 patients (1.43%) reacted positively to SL mix. The memory property of Sesquiterpene Lactone Azerin, isolated from the plant species Ferula compared with placebo (PCO) and clinical well known drug Nootropyl/Piracetam (NOO) were studied on rats. The experiments showed that Azerin in 7-8 times improved the ability of rats to keep the signs of Passive Avoidance Response (PAR), when NOO only in 3-4 times. The learning and transcorneally amnesic electro-shock leaded to 100% PCO, 63% NOO and only 20% Azerin rats retrograde amnesia syndrome. Thus, the mechanisms of amnestic and antiamnestic properties of Azerin have been studied.
