An 83-year-old woman experienced the slow enlargement of a right lower eyelid mass. Histopathologic examination of the excised tissue showed a mucin-filled cystic tumor emanating from an apocrine bilayer that displayed bleb-like apocrine decapitation secretion. The outer flattened myoepithelial layer of the bilayer reacted with immunohistochemical stains for smooth muscle actin and calponin. In foci, the tumor exhibited a cribriform architecture with small pockets of mucin. Tumor cells were reactive for cytokeratin 7, Gross Cystic Disease Fluid Protein 15 (BRST-2), estrogen and progesterone re

Gastric metastasis of breast cancer is clinically rare and its diagnosis is often delayed because of the difficulty in differentiating it from primary gastric cancer. Here, we report a case of gastric metastasis identified 12 years after surgery for left-sided breast cancer. Gastrointestinal symptoms prompted an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which revealed an elevated gastric lesion. Immunohistochemical staining of the lesion showed positivity for CK7, GATA-3, mammaglobin, and GCDFP-15, and negativity for CK20, leading to the diagnosis of gastric metastasis from breast cancer. When gastroi

Breast carcinoma rarely metastasises to the gastrointestinal tract, and duodenal involvement is particularly uncommon. We describe a patient with a complex history of recurrent invasive ductal breast carcinoma who presented with persistent nausea and vomiting refractory to conventional therapy. Endoscopic evaluation revealed mucosal nodularity in the second portion of the duodenum. Biopsies confirmed metastatic breast carcinoma immunohistochemically positive for GATA3 and mammaglobin, and negative for CK20, indicating breast origin. This case highlights the importance of considering gastrointe

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma of salivary glands harbors the recurrent ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion because of the translocation t (12; 15) (p13; q25) and resembles breast secretory carcinoma. This tumor composed of papillary, cystic, solid, and cribriform patterns. Immunohistochemically, the tumors are positive for mammaglobin, CK7, CK8, STAT5a, vimentin, and S100. In this report, the authors presented a patient of recurrent parotid gland mammary analogue secretory carcinoma in a 22-year-old woman. The patient received extended parotidectomy with partial adhesive masseter surgery. The facial

A 74-year-old women with a history of neuroendocrine tumor in the terminal ileum presented on screening mammography with an irregular hypoechogenic mass in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. A core biopsy showed a neuroendocrine tumor, interpreted as a probable metastasis from the intestinal primary. Other masses were found in the right lobe of the liver. Resection of the masses in the breast and liver was performed at the same time. Morphological and immunohistochemical findings (positive neuroendocrine markers, estrogene receptors and negative cytokeratine 7, mammaglobin, GCDFP-15,

Phyllodes tumors are fibroepithelial neoplasms most commonly found in the breast, and their occurrence in the anogenital region-especially in male patients-is exceedingly rare. We describe a man who presented with a localized mass in the anal region. The lesion was excised, and gross examination revealed the characteristic leaf-like clefts typical of phyllodes tumors. Histopathological analysis demonstrated a biphasic morphology, composed of epithelial and stromal components. Immunohistochemical staining showed positivity for estrogen receptor, GATA3, and mammaglobin in the epithelial componen

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) is a recently described low-grade salivary gland malignancy with histologic, immunohistochemical and molecular similarities to secretory carcinoma of the breast, including a specific t(12;15)(p13;q25) resulting in an ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging frequently document a macrocystic structure. The main differential diagnosis of secretory carcinoma is with low grade acinic cell carcinoma (AciCC). The two can be differentiated with immunohistochemical stains for S100, mammaglobin, carbonic anhydrase VI and DOG-1; the id

We present a salivary gland tumor of the parotid gland in a 54-year-old woman, which contained a minor mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) component (20%) intermixed with a morphologically entirely different mucinous adenocarcinomatous component that comprised 80% of the tumor mass and a morphologically nondescript low-grade intraductal carcinoma (in situ) component. On fluorescence in situ hybridization, a break in the ETV6 gene was documented in the mucinous adenocarcinomatous, the conventional MASC, and the intraductal (in situ) components. RT-PCR failed to reveal an ETV6-NTRK3 fusi

BACKGROUND: The involvement of secretoglobins (SCGBs) other than SCGB1A1 (Clara cell 10-kDa protein, CC10) in human airway diseases remains unexplored. Among those SCGBs, SCGB3A2 (uteroglobin-related protein 1, UGRP1) is particularly interesting, given its structure and function similarities with SCGB1A1 (CC10). The aim of this study was to investigate the expression regulation of SCGBs other than SCGB1A1 (CC10) in human upper airway, and their potential involvement, particularly that of SCGB3A2 (UGRP1), in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and without nasal polyps (CRSsN

TRPS1 (Tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome type 1) - a transcription factor of the GATA family, has recently emerged as a promising immunohistochemical marker for breast cancer. This review summarizes current data on the diagnostic, prognostic, and potential therapeutic relevance of TRPS1, as well as its molecular functions and expression patterns across different breast cancer subtypes. TRPS1 demonstrates high sensitivity, including in diagnostically challenging cases such as triple-negative and poorly differentiated carcinomas, where traditional markers (GATA3, mammaglobin) may be absent or wea

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract is uncommon, colonic metastasis from BC (CMBC) is even rarer.
CASE SUMMARY: This report describes a 44-year-old female patient with metastatic triple-negative BC in the ascending colon who underwent laparoscopic radical right hemicolectomy. The patient had undergone left modified radical mastectomy only 15 months ago and stopped chemotherapy just 3 months ago. The diagnosis of CMBC was made based on the previous history of BC and positive results of several specific immunohistochemical markers (gross cystic disease fluid

Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate of gynaecological cancers. This is partly due to the lack of effective screening markers. Here, we used oligonucleotide microarrays complementary to approximately 12 000 genes to establish a gene-expression microarray (GEM) profile for normal ovarian tissue, as compared to stage III ovarian serous adenocarcinoma and omental metastases from the same individuals. We found that the GEM profiles of the primary and secondary tumours from the same individuals were essentially alike, reflecting the fact that these tumours had already metastasised and acqu

We present a case detailing a 70-year-old female with a history of triple-negative breast carcinoma (TNBC) of the left breast and contralateral stage pT2a nodular melanoma of the right upper arm who underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy of the right axilla demonstrating a metastatic epithelioid tumor that was strongly positive for S-100 protein and SOX10. The tumor cells were negative for HMB-45 and Melan-A and positive for CK7 and other breast markers (GCDFP15, mammaglobin, and GATA3). An elderly lady presented with a 2-year history of intermittent vaginal bleeding and later the development of a vulvovaginal mass. A core biopsy histology specimen from the mass and the left inguinal lymph node was suggestive of metastatic adenocarcinoma of breast origin. No breast lesion was detected on mammography, and axillary nodes were negative. The histopathologic features and the expression of GATA3, cytokeratin (CK)7, mammaglobin staining and estrogen and progesterone receptors led to a diagnosis of breast cancer originating from the ectopic mammary tissue in the vulva. Given the rarit

The differential diagnosis between a primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma (CAC) and a cutaneous metastasis from a breast carcinoma can be a very difficult task if it is only made on morphologic bases. Concerning adnexal tumors (in general), there have been many attempts to define an immunohistochemical panel, and while a definition is useful in certain respects, the series presented often times does not include examples of CAC. Other times, CAC seems to behave in an odd way in an immunohistochemical context; they behave differently than other adnexal tumors, and this in turn adds a grade of co

Phyllodes tumors (PTs) represent a spectrum of rare, fibroepithelial neoplasms of the breast, which can be subcategorized as benign, borderline, or malignant based on their histological appearance. Accessory breast tissue may present anywhere along the embryological mammary ridge, and at distant locations as aberrant breast tissue. We present the case of a 56-year-old lady with an umbilical mass, thought to represent a strangulated hernia. Sections showed a fibroepithelial tumor with leaf-like ducts, conspicuous mitotic activity (up to 8 per 10 high-power fields), and focal infiltration into f

We present the case of a 33-year-old female who developed a cystic nodule on the vulva during pregnancy. Immediately following Cesarean section, the lesion was biopsied and histologic examination revealed a dermal tumor composed of glandular structures arranged in a labyrinth pattern. The glandular structures displayed cytoplasmic vacuolization, large atypical nuclei, prominent nucleoli and scattered eosinophilic luminal secretions. Immunohistochemistry showed the tumor cells to be diffusely positive for CK7 and progesterone receptor with focal expression of mammaglobin and GCDFP-15. The tumor…

Implantation in humans is a complex process that is temporally and spatially restricted. Over the past decade, using a one-by-one approach, several genes and gene products that may participate in this process have been identified in secretory phase endometrium. Herein, we have investigated global gene expression during the window of implantation (peak E2 and progesterone levels) in well characterized human endometrial biopsies timed to the LH surge, compared with the late proliferative phase (peak E2 level) of the menstrual cycle. Tissues were processed for poly(A(+)) RNA and hybridization of

Microsecretory adenocarcinoma (MSA) is a recently described salivary gland tumor with a characteristic histologic and immunophenotypic profile and recurrent MEF2C-SS18 fusions. Because only six cases of MSA have been published, its complete clinicopathologic spectrum is unclear, and its biologic behavior has not been documented. Here, we present an updated and expanded experience of 24 MSA cases. All cases of MSA were obtained from the authors' files. Immunohistochemistry for S100, SOX10, p63, p40, SMA, calponin, and mammaglobin was performed. Molecular analysis was performed by targeted RNA s

Collision tumours, defined by the coexistence of two histologically distinct neoplasms within a single organ, are rare and typically arise from different cell lineages. We report a unique case of a 64-year-old woman with a history of oestrogen receptor (ER)-positive, HER2-negative breast carcinoma who developed a renal mass later identified as a collision tumour comprising clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and metastatic breast carcinoma. Initial imaging and biopsy suggested ccRCC alone; however, post-nephrectomy histopathology revealed metastatic breast carcinoma foci within the ccRCC a
