At Hakodate National General Hospital, a medical course (Hakodate Medical School) existed from 1872 to 1874 with governmental support, which was guided and lectured by Dr. Stuart Erdridge from Philadelphia. From many records concerning this course written by a student who attended during this period, real features of this course were clarified. Dr. S. Erdridge gave lectures in English about the fundamental as well as clinical aspects of medicine, including surgery, and gave guidance on clinical practise and treatments. We develop a simple statistic for comparing rates of rare adverse events between treatment groups in postmarketing safety studies where the events have uncertain status. When women come into prison, many have unmet health needs. In this study we examine the health care provided to women in prison and their identified health needs, and discuss opportunities for improved healthcare delivery. We undertook a medical record review of women released from a minimum 6-week period of incarceration in New South Wales correctional centres between May 2013 and January 2014. This paper reports on the development of an on-line automated medical record system suitable for nursing homes. The software was written in standard MUMPS (Massachusetts General Hospital Utilities Multi-Programming System) and is easy for the first-time user to operate. The data managed by the system may be divided into four major components, including text tables, the hierarchical problem dictionary, the patient admission data, and the care plan data. The system met all of the project's objectives and has been enthusiastically received by the nursing home staff.
