We report on 2 infants, one with a bilateral and the other with a unilateral corneal metaplasia. The first case with bilateral corneal metaplasia showed shortening of both upper and lower lids with formation of symblephara. By ultrasonography the right eye presented with microphthalmos, aphakia, and persistent hyaloid, whereas the inner parts of the left eye appeared to be normal. Pancreatic ductal metaplasia (PDM) is the stepwise replacement of differentiated somatic cells with ductal or ductal-like cells in the pancreas. PDM is usually triggered by cellular and environmental insults. A 66-year-old man with a history of tobacco and alcohol consumption was diagnosed with a severe peptic esophagitis. After treatment, an endoscopy showed the resolution of esophagitis, but revealed white multinodular plaques with a diffuse distribution. Histology showed esophageal mucosa with a prominent granular layer and hyperorthokeratotis, in keeping with epidermoid metaplasia. This unusual condition has been linked to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Therefore, diagnosis and endoscopic surveillance should be considered.

INTRODUCTION: Dermal lipomatous metaplasia is a particular histological presentation characterized by the presence of mature fat cells in the dermis. Endometrial osseous metaplasia (EOM) is a rare condition characterised by the presence of bone in the uterine cavity. Some patients with this condition present with secondary infertility due to the presence of a foreign body in the endometrium. We report a case of a 39-year-old woman who presented with secondary infertility due to EOM. EOM is a rare cause of infertility that can be easily managed by hysteroscopic removal of the bony fragments.

Oesophageal adenocarcinoma conveys a poor prognosis and has a rapidly increasing incidence. BACKGROUND: In cases of known aetiology, gastric duodenal metaplasia (GMD) is a reversible lesion. In cases of unknown aetiology, the fate of GMD remains elusive. GMD was recently found in a duodenal adenoma.
AIM: To audit the frequency of GMD occurring in a cohort of duodenal adenomas.

Myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia is a hematologic disorder currently classified with polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia as a chronic myeloproliferative disease. The median age at diagnosis is 60 years, and more than 90% of patients are diagnosed after age 40 years. The junctional mucosa of 49 colorectal carcinomas were studied for Paneth cell metaplasia. Twenty two cases (44.89%) showed Paneth cells in the junctional mucosa. The carcinomas were seen mainly in the age range of 51 to 60 years (38.4%) The occurrence of Paneth cell metaplasia was higher in the vicinity of tumours of ascending colon and in well differentiated grades of adenocarcinomas. This probably indicates the reactive host response in the junctional mucosa which is of better prognostic significance.

The disease is characterized by increased endothelial cell and fibroblast proliferation, resulting in increased deposition of fibronectin, laminin, and collagen in the bone marrow. Duodenal and antral mucosal biopsy specimens were obtained from 139 patients with dyspeptic complaints to study the prevalence and extent of gastric metaplasia in the duodenal bulb in relation to Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection and duodenal ulcer disease. A 52-year-old man with agnogenic myeloid metaplasia had a sudden onset of pain and bleeding from the left ear and an associated decrease in hearing acuity on that side. Examination revealed a friable mass that filled the middle ear and protruded through a perforated tympanic membrane. Special staining of a tissue specimen of the mass revealed myeloid metaplasia. Otorhinolaryngologists should be aware of the fact that the ear can be involved in hematopoietic disorders.

Intestinal metaplasia of the endometrium is extremely uncommon with only a single earlier case report.
