In a first experiment, the potential effectiveness of three cream formulations (A, B, C) against skin irritation due to n-hexane was evaluated using a guinea pig model. Semi-quantitative histopathological assessment of skin lesions were carried out. Due to interesting protective effects, cream formulation A (Travabon) was selected and further investigated. In a second series of experiments, this cream showed some protective effects against irritation due to toluene, but was not found efficacious against trichlorethylene irritation.

Wofatox 50 EC is a widely used experimental insecticide, which can expose the pheasants (non-target organisms) during the plant protection practice. The test material was employed in 4 different aqueous emulsions, of which the 2 lowest level (0.2 and 0.4%) corresponded to the concentrations used in plant protection. The total volume of injected emulsions was 0.1 ml per egg on the 12th d of incubation. The macroscopic results showed a dose-dependent maldevelopment (generally cervical lordosis and scoliosis, cyllosis and sporadic thoraco-gastroschisis).

A case of organophosphate (OP) poisoning who recovered after requiring almost 1000 mg of atropine, 10 gm of PAM and ventilatory support for 7 days is presented here. The overview of organophosphate poisoning and its management is given. With the approach adopted, the mortality reported in the general medicine unit in the central hospital in Nepal is 7.4%. The two important aspects of the management are vigilance of the atropine drip, especially at night, and other physical and psychological support care of the patients.
