[Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome: A case report].

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBS) is a rare disease, characterized by multiple vascular malformations in the skin and gastrointestinal tract. Other organs can also be affected, presenting different clinical manifestations such as arthralgia, epistaxis, hemoptysis, hematuria, hemothorax, mild thrombocytopenia, consumptive coagulopathy, and bone deformities, among others. We present a case of BRBS in a nine-year-old boy with the characteristic clinical manifestations of punctated purplish-blue skin lesions that vary in size and gastrointestinal vascular malformations with upper digestive tr

Blue rubber-bleb nevus syndrome: a case report.

Blue rubber-bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is an uncommon systemic disorder characterized by cutaneous and visceral cavernous hemangiomas. The characteristic rubbery textured and easily compressible lesions usually present in childhood and predominate cutaneously over the trunk and extremities. Gastrointestinal foci appear most commonly in the small bowel, a site that appears to dominate visceral involvement. We review the case of a 23-year-old white woman, whose numerous lesions on her trunk, extremities, and oral mucosa had been present since childhood.

Blue Nevi and Melanoma Arising in Blue Nevus: A Comparative Histopathological Case Series.

Background and Clinical Significance: Blue nevi are a dubious pigmented lesion. While somewhat common throughout the population, they are significantly less common than other melanocytic neoplasms, and both their morphology and development bring them closer to true hamartomas than neoplasms. An exceedingly rare occurrence is the development of melanoma from a preexisting blue nevus. This nosological unit, defined as melanoma arising in a blue nevus, also known as malignant blue nevus, blue naevus-like melanoma, melanoma ex-blue naevus, and melanoma mimicking cellular blue naevus, is required t…

Compound blue nevus: a variant of blue nevus with an additional junctional dendritic component. A clinical, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical study of six cases.

We studied six cases of heavily pigmented melanocytic lesions with features of blue nevi within the dermis, but with an additional junctional dendritic component. This compound variant of blue nevus is an uncommon lesion that has not been previously identified as a distinct histologic entity. Immunoperoxidase staining for S100 protein and counterstaining with azure B distinguished the presence of melanocytes among numerous melanophages within the dermis. The compound variant of blue nevus can be distinguished histologically from combined blue nevus, pigmented spindle cell nevus, malignant mela

Cellular blue nevus with nevus cells in regional lymph nodes: a lesion that mimics melanoma.

We report the case of a young man who had a large, firm, nodule covered by darkly pigmented skin over the outer aspect of the right ankle and palpable right inguinal lymph nodes. The mole had enlarged rapidly during the past month, contained deeply pigmented cells with increased cellularity and mitotic activity and groups of intensely pigmented nevus cells within the marginal sinus of the inguinal nodes. The excised mass with inguinal lymphadenectomy was reported as benign cellular nevus with benign nevus cell aggregates in lymph nodes. The purpose of this report is to emphasize how cellular b

A case of proliferative nodule arising within blue nevus.

Blue nevi are a heterogeneous group of lesions that can display a variety of different clinicopathological characteristics. Although attempts are made to classify each lesion into defined subtypes, there can be overlap between the subtypes. The clinical , dermoscopic and histolopathologic features of a case of proliferative nodule arising within blue nevus is discussed. Running title: Blue nevi are an heterogeneous group of melanocytic lesions blue tinctorial properties. Proliferative nodules are rare benign lesions often present at birth as a component of a large congenital melanocytic nevi,

An atypical presentation of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

A 69-year-old white man presented with several episodes of hematochezia. Colonoscopy demonstrated multiple colonic blebs localized mainly in the distal transverse colon. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and computed tomography of the abdomen did not reveal any abnormalities. The patient required several blood transfusions and eventually required a subtotal colectomy with ileosigmoid anastomosis for definitive bleeding control. Pathology was remarkable for multifocal vascular ectasia, consistent with the diagnosis of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

The epithelioid blue nevus: A rare intraoral nevomelanocytic tumor.

The epithelioid blue nevus (EBN) is considered a cutaneous marker of the Carney complex. Sporadic EBN has been reported in patients not exhibiting the Carney complex. The EBN does not exhibit unique clinical features that help to differentiate it from other lesions and is often provisionally diagnosed as an acquired melanocytic nevus, or a malignant melanoma. A 52-year-old African-American female had a 3-4 mm bluish macule of the left anterior hard palate. An excisional biopsy was performed to rule out an incipient melanoma. Formalin-fixed, hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections were examined

Multiendoscope-assisted treatment for blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is characterized by gastrointestinal and cutaneous hemangiomas and gastrointestinal bleeding causing anemia. We report a unique case of this syndrome in an adult woman. It was associated with congenital heart disease, for which the patient underwent surgery at 12 months of age, and cutaneous hemangiomas, for which surgery was performed later in childhood. Gastrointestinal bleeding was diagnosed and treated when she was 21 years of age after a workup for iron deficiency anemia. Successful total resection of all gastrointestinal hemangiomas was performed by minima

Cellular blue nevus with massive regional lymph node metastases.

BACKGROUND: Small, well-differentiated groups of nevus cells have been found occasionally in the marginal sinuses and parenchyma of regional lymph nodes that drain sites of cellular blue nevi. OBJECTIVE: The histologic, immunohistochemical, and karyometric description of a pigmented cutaneous lesion, with the features of cellular blue nevus and located on the leg of a 14-year-old woman, that was accompanied by synchronic presentation of massive inguinal lymph-node metastases. METHODS: The excised specimens were processed routinely, embedded in paraffin, and sectioned into 4-microm-thick slic

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome Causing Small Bowel Bleeding.

A 79-year-old man with fatigue and melena was diagnosed with severe iron-deficiency anemia. Capsule endoscopy revealed submucosal vascular lesions in the jejunum and active bleeding in the ileum, consistent with Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS). Exploratory laparoscopy led to the resection of a 120 cm intestinal segment, confirming the diagnosis. Figures show the resected section and vascular anomalies.

SF3B1 and BAP1 mutations in blue nevus-like melanoma.

Blue nevi are melanocytic tumors originating in the cutaneous dermis. Malignant tumors may arise in association with or resembling blue nevi, so called 'blue nevus-like melanoma', which can metastasize and result in patient death. Identifying which tumors will behave in a clinically aggressive manner can be challenging. Identifying genetic alterations in such tumors may assist in their diagnosis and prognostication. Blue nevi are known to be genetically related to uveal melanomas (eg, both harboring GNAQ and GNA11 mutations). In this study, we analyzed a large cohort (n=301) of various morphol

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with knee joint disorder.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) involves cutaneous vascular malformation characterized by multiple venous malformations. This commonly affects the skin and gastrointestinal tract. BRBNS is associated with anemia and occasionally involves orthopedic manifestations. A 6-year-old boy was referred to hospital for evaluation of anemia. He presented with a rubber-like soft-tissue mass in the left knee and the right side of the neck, recurrent pain, and fixed flexion contracture of the knee. Blood examination indicated consumption coagulopathy and anemia caused by not only iron-deficiency ane

Incidentally Detected Blue Nevus of Endocervix: a Case Report.

Blue nevi are uncommon, asymptomatic lesions of the uterine cervix. These lesions are not often detected clinically or on colposcopy. Careful histopathological examination is required. The nevus cells are said to originate from the immature melanoblasts of the neural crest. These lesions need to be differentiated from malignant melanoma and melanosis of the cervix. We present here a case report of incidentally detected cervical blue nevus in a 52 year old lady.
