A qualitative research design was used with 33 nurses from designated bioterrorism-receiving hospitals. Nurses recommended adequate protective equipment, education, drills, accessible information and available content experts, and available administrators. Other recommendations includ

Outcomes for high-risk neonates in a managed care clinical system.

The purpose of this study was to compare a conventional system and a managed care clinical system for the care of high-risk neonates. The variables selected for the comparison of these two systems included neurobehavioral organization as evidenced by feeding behaviors, length of stay, severity of illness, readmissions, and cost of care. The sample consisted of 260 neonates (111 in the conventional system, 149 in the managed care system). In addition, two neonatal diagnosis-related groups were selected: 386 (extreme immaturity) and 387 (prematurity with major problems). Findings showed that the

Midwifery managers' views about the use of complementary therapies in the maternity services.

The burgeoning interest in complementary therapies (CTs) in the general population over the last decade has created a demand for CTs to be made available within the NHS. Study Protocol for Two-Steps Parallel Randomized Controlled Trial: Pre-Clinical Usability Tests for a New Double-Chamber Syringe.

A new double-chamber syringe (DUO Syringe) was developed for intravenous drug administration and catheter flushing. This study presents a protocol for pre-clinical usability tests to validate the golden prototype of this new device, performed in a high-fidelity simulation lab by nurses. A two-steps parallel randomized controlled trial with two arms was designed (with standard syringes currently used in clinical practice and with the DUO Syringe). After randomization, eligible and consented participants will be requested to perform, individually, intravenous drug administration and flushing, fo

Scapegoating and the unpopular nurse.

This paper considers the theories of scapegoating and their application to nursing. It reviews the literature on scapegoating drawing particular attention to those studies which have emphasised on the instrumental uses of scapegoating in organisational contexts. The paper draws on data from a qualitative study of the identification and management of the 'problem' nurse conducted in three healthcare Trusts. It describes a number of illustrative cases in which different types of scapegoating occurred. The paper argues that scapegoating is an ethical challenge which nurses must face.

Nurse Leaders' Perceptions and Practices of E-Leadership: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: While research on nursing leadership has grown, empirical studies specifically addressing e-leadership in nursing remain scarce. Digitalization offers opportunities to enhance efficiency and flexibility but also necessitates careful management of interpersonal relationships and staff well-being. E-leadership in nursing requires strong interpersonal competencies, organizational support, targeted training, and clear policies, along with a balanced leadership approach. Notably, there is a lack of research on the state of e-leadership in nursing in the postpandemic context. AIM: Thi

Nursing tasks and strain development among German home care nurses: results from an observational field study.

Despite the central role of home care in aging societies, little is known about the daily work processes and short-term strain experienced by home care nurses. This observational field study addresses this critical research gap by investigating the nursing tasks and short-term strain reported by home care nurses and nursing assistants in Germany. Using workplace observations and short surveys in combination, this study observed 46 German home care nurses from 25 organizations. Nursing tasks were coded in five-minute intervals, and strain outcomes (fatigue, engagement, monotony, mental satiatio

Oral Syringe Versus Drug Pacifier for Delivery of Oral Antipyretic Medication: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Fever is 1 of the most common symptoms in children, and oral paracetamol is 1 of the most preferred antipyretic and analgesic agents for treating fever. Administering the full dose is key to effectively managing symptoms, which necessitates a method to prevent dose loss. This study compared 2 different drug delivery methods used for oral paracetamol administration in terms of clinical efficacy. METHODS: After obtaining ethical approval, the study was conducted with 100 eligible children aged 0 to 24 months who presented to a university hospital pediatrics department between Janu
