Vaginal cryotherapy has been performed in 37 females of reproductive age with chronic salpingo-oophoritis. Positive results were achieved: clinical improvement, better uterine tubes contractility and regional hemodynamics.

The authors suggest new methods for the choice of drugs and physiotherapeutic modalities for the treatment of female genital inflammations, based on the suppression of the agents' antilysozymic activities, factors of the agent intracellular persistence. Clinical trials of these methods in 91 patients have shown their high efficacy: the incidence of complete remissions has increased by 60.7%, incidence of disease recurrences reduced by 53%, and remission periods in chronic patients were prolonged by 2.5-3 times (from 0.5-1 year to 2.5-3 years).

Sixty patients with oligomenorrhea and the painful syndrome were examined to study the course of a chronic inflammatory process of the genitals. Laparoscopy has confirmed the initial diagnosis of salpingo-oophoritis in 24 of the 60 examinees. The authors call for a more thorough examination of this patient population, for an erroneous diagnosis of a chronic inflammation leads to erroneous therapeutic strategy, consisting in irrational administration of antibacterial, balneo- and physiotherapy.

Mumps virus was isolated from the cervico-vaginal secretions of a 31-year-old woman presenting with mild signs of oophoritis accompanied by xantholeucorrhoea. The serological finding of mumps-specific IgM antibodies was further evidence confirming the casual link between mumps virus and ovarian pathology. Rarely, ovarian involvement may be the only manifestation of mumps infection. The importance of this diagnosis and its relationship to the possible development of secondary oligomenorrhoea and early menopause is discussed.

Xanthogranulomatous salpingo-oophoritis is an extremely rare disease that can be confused with adnexal malignancy. Few reports have described the diffusion-weighted imaging features of this disease. A 56-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and was referred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a left adnexal mass extending to the uterus and the rectum. We describe the case of a 42-year-old woman who was a follow-up case of incompletely treated pelvic inflammatory disease, and presented with … plasma cells and neutrophils; this established the diagnosis of xanthogranulomatous salpingitis and oophoritis. The case is of interest in view of the rarity of this condition; five cases of xanthogranulomatous salpingitis and oophoritis have been reported in the world literature till date.

Experimental murine autoimmune oophoritis, a model of human premature ovarian failure, is induced by immunization with a peptide of the ZP3 glycoprotein from mouse zona pellucida (ZP3(330-340)) in CFA. The ovarian pathology is mediated by ZP3-specific, CD4+ T cells, and not by Abs.
