Relationship between abdominal trauma or surgery and mesenteric panniculitis.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare disease characterized by chronic non-specific inflammation of mesenteric fat tissue. Several etiologic and/or associated factors have been reported in the literature so far. Although trauma or surgery is one of the potential etiologic factors for mesenteric panniculitis, to the best of our knowledge, no strong correlation has been shown in the literature until now.

[Retractile mesenteritis. Report of 3 cases].

Mesenteric panniculitis is an infrequent pathology; the diagnosis is made by the pathologist and it is characterized by inflammation, fibrosis and retraction of the mesenteric fat. We report three new cases of retractile mesenteritis or mesenteric panniculitis, two cases presented with intestinal obstruction and the other had an abdominal tumour. In all cases the pathological diagnosis was retractile mesenteritis.

Thoracic mesothelioma associated with abdominal mesenteric panniculitis.

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is characterized by an abdominal inflammatory reaction and mesenteric fat necrosis. Clinically, MP manifests as recurrent abdominal pain, pyrexia, and space-occupying peritoneal masses. We report a patient with MP, severe enough to require immunosuppressant treatment, who developed a recurrent pleural effusion. Malignant mesothelioma was identified in the pleural space 3 yr after initial pleural investigation. This case is the second report of pleural effusion associated with MP. It is the first report in which thoracic mesothelioma and MP occurred together. MP has

Sclerosing mesenteritis: a systematic review of 192 cases.

INTRODUCTION: Sclerosing mesenteritis includes a spectrum of inflammatory disorders involving the adipose tissue of the bowel mesentery. AIM: To perform a systematic review of previously reported cases of sclerosing mesenteritis (SM) to determine the epidemiology, risk factors, methods of diagnosis, treatment patterns and outcomes for this disease. METHODS: Medline, PubMed, Google Scholar and Cochrane database were searched using keywords mesenteric panniculitis, retractile mesenteritis, mesenteric lipodystrophy and sclerosing mesenteritis. Data was collated into a single excel database, tra

[Sclerosing mesenteritis].

The Sclerosing Mesenteritis is a rare idiopathic disease. It represents the final stadium of progression of the chronic inflammatory illnesses of the intestinal mesentery, with predominance of fibrosis. The clinical manifestations are varied and unspecific. Diagnosis, that demands high degree of suspicion, can be presumed for imaging study, that discloses heterogeneous mass with tumor-like appearance, and confirmed on the basis of anatomo-pathological examination. The treatment is empirical and the prognostic is habitually favourable, over all in initial stadiums of the illness, being in a min

Mesenteric lipodystrophy of the left colon.

Mesenteric lipodystrophy is a rare condition characterized by tumor-like expansion of the mesocolon. The etiology remains obscure, but autoimmunity, abdominal trauma, abdominal surgery, and ischemic injury have all been postulated. To our knowledge, there have been no previous reports of synchronous mesenteric lipodystrophy and angiodysplasia. Whether these are independent or associate entities remains unknown. We present the clinical, radiological, and pathological findings of such a case.

[Bladder infiltration of mesenteric panniculitis].

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare, recently accepted clinical entity which is characterized by the presence of an unspecific inflammatory process in the fat tissue of the gut mesentery. A usually intermittent abdominal pain is the most frequent symptom, whereas urological involvement is exceptional. This paper contributes a new case of mesenteric panniculitis in a 72-year old male patient who initially presented with signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction resulting from mesenteric tumoration, and affecting a segment of the terminal ileum which, during growth, infiltrated the apex of the
