OBJECTIVE: To study the periodicity of leptospirosis incidence.
METHODS: Data of leptospirosis epidemics in Yichang City collected during the past 38 years from 1960 to 1997 were analyzed with periodic graphics method.
RESULTS: Cause-specific incidence rate of leptospirosis was 15.43 per 100,000 in average, with an epidemic interval of 10 years, with statistical significance in periodic vibration (J = 4.179, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION: The results mentioned above provided scientific basis for the effective control and prevention of the disease.

Circadian periodicity of plasma 17-hydroxycorticosteroids (17-OHCS) was studied in ten healthy controls and 25 patients with tropical pulmonary eosinophilia (TPE). Parish registers have been studied by time series analysis to detect smallpox epidemics in England during 1600-1800. Confirmatory evidence was provided by the seasonality of child mortality. A 5-year cycle in smallpox epidemics was detected in medium-sized, rural towns. Focal neocortical epilepsy is a common form of epilepsy and there is a need to develop animal models that allow the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies to treat this type of epilepsy.
