The association between bodily anxiety symptom dimensions and the scales of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory and the Temperament and Character Inventory.

The association between anxiety disorders and different measures of personality has been extensively studied to further the understanding of … symptom dimensions and the scales of the Temperament and Character Inventory and of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory. When both sets of personality measures were simultaneously modeled as predictors, the Revised NEO Personality Inventory scales, neuroticism and extraversion, remained significantly associated with the severity factor, whereas the association betwee …

Psychometrics of the autonomy and relatedness inventory in persons with type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Social support is essential for the self-management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); no specific measure of the quality of social support has been designed and tested for people with T2DM. Having a validated questionnaire that is culturally and linguistically appropriate in this field would nurture research in this area and contribute to better patient health outcomes. AIMS: This study investigated the psychometric features of the Autonomy in Relatedness Inventory (ARI) among individuals with T2DM in Jordan. METHODOLOGY: We used a secondary dataset on self-management and outco

Clarifying the interstitial nature of facets from the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 using the five factor model of personality.

Although the higher order structure of the Personality Inventory for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (PID-5; Krueger, Derringer, Markon, Watson, & Skodol, 2012), is well-established, the lower order structure and facet-to-domain assignment is inconsistent across studies. Some studies used the five-factor model of adaptive personality (FFM) as a framework to evaluate and characterize this lower order structure; however, findings have been limited in various respects including the use of primarily Caucasian and nonclinical samples. The goal of the current…

Personality correlates of study difficulty and academic performance in university students. I. The Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire and Dynamic Personality Inventory.

The personality correlates of study difficulty and academic performance in university students have been measured in terms of psychiatric symptomatology and premorbid characteristics. The UCLSQ, MHQ and DPI were administered to two groups of male and female students presenting at an health centre: one (n = 72) of patients seeking psychological help, the other (n = 73) a control group. Significant differences between the two groups were formed on the MHQ, confirming previous results; and these were supplemented by differences on the DPI. Motivational and psychoneurotic components of study diffi

The Psychometric Properties of the French Version of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5.

In the context of the publication of DSM-5, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) has been proposed as a new dimensional assessment tool for personality disorders. This instrument includes a pool of 220 items organized around 25 facets included in a five-factor second-order domain structure. The examination of the replicability of the trait structure across methods and populations is of primary importance. In view of this need, the main objective of the current study was to validate the French version of the PID-5 among French-speaking adults from a European community sample (N=2,532). I…

Psychometric properties of the burden inventory for relatives of persons with psychotic disturbances.

Earlier studies have shown that close relatives are heavily burdened when a family member has schizophrenia. The current purpose was twofold: (1) to examine the psychometric properties for a test of the burden of family members, one used in Swedish clinical practice (the Care Burden Scale for Relatives), and (2) develop a shortened version with the same or better psychometric properties. 99 close relatives, 34 men and 65 women of the same number of patients who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or delusional disorder, completed the Care Burden Scale for Relatives

Investigating Trait Profiles of Narcissism Using the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5).

The narcissism literature lacks consensus on how narcissism is operationalized and empirically assessed. The Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) may prove beneficial in assessing and unifying the various existing conceptualizations of narcissism. However, the current AMPD Criterion B trait profile of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is restrictive in that it captures only grandiose expressions of narcissism and does not account for broader features of antagonism and vulnerability. The purpose of the current study was to examine the utility of the AMPD trait model in captu

Personality Inventory for the DSM-5 trait correlates with self-reported acts of rape.

BACKGROUND: Sexual aggression researchers have identified "dark triad" personality traits as potential etiologic contributors to rape perpetration. The Personality Inventory for the DSM-5 (PID-5) canvasses trait dimensions that underlie a proposed hybrid diagnostic model for the personality disorders. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE: Associations between PID-5 item/facet/domain scores and self-reported acts of rape were examined in a national survey of men (N = 517) administered on a crowdsourcing platform. RESULTS: Pervasive associations were found between various PID-5 risk indicators and acts …

Clinical cut scores for the Persian version of the personality inventory for DSM-5.

BACKGROUND: The cut points of psychological tools to diagnose clinical conditions are not universal and depend on the region and prevalence of the disorder. Thus, we aimed to identify the cutoff points of the Persian original version of the personality inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5; 220 items) that would optimally distinguish nonclinical from clinical groups. METHODS: Both nonclinical (N = 634, 73% female, 34.0 ± 10.8 years) and clinical (N = 454, 29% female, 29.5 ± 7.4 years) samples from the West of Iran participated in the study. Data were analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC…

Additional Validation of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) Eating Concerns Scale.

Maladaptive eating behaviors are typically associated with significant impairment in psychological functioning more broadly. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) family of instruments has traditionally been the most frequently used psychological assessment of psychopathology by clinical psychologists. The most recent version, the MMPI-3, features a new Eating Concerns (EAT) scale that screens for the presence of problematic eating behaviors. The goals of the current study were (a) to independently replicate validity correlations reported from the college sample during EAT sca…

[Assessment of pathological personality traits and gender characteristics by Personality Inventory for DSM-5 in a psychiatric and a normal sample].

INTRODUCTION: The DSM-5 describes two types of classification of personality disorders: a categorical and a dimensional classification. The alternative model of personality disorders in the DSM-5 determines new diagnostic criteria for personality disorders with a criterion B describing the presence of pathological personality facets. For the assessment of these domains and facets, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) was created. METHODS: A sample of patients receiving psychiatric care (n=239) and a normal sample (n=226) were involved in the study. The two samples did not differ signif…

The Relationship Between Personality Inventory for DSM (PID-5) Domains and Disruptive Behavior Disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Previous research has demonstrated a strong relationship between personality and psychopathology. However, the relationship between the traits listed in the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) and Disruptive Behavior Disorders (DBD) in adolescents has not been examined in detail. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) domains and DBD symptoms in an adolescent inpatient sample. METHODS: A total of 127 adolescents (71% female) aged 12-17 years (M = 15.24, SD = 1.33) were recruited from an inpatient psychiatri…

A Scoring Procedure for Malignant Narcissism Based on Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Facets.

The current study focuses on the development and validation of a scoring procedure for malignant narcissism using the Personality Inventory for DSM-5, a self-report measure of Criterion B from the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders. In Study 1, a prototype matching approach was used to aggregate ratings from 15 clinicians specializing in personality disorder treatment and/or assessment. Indices of inter-rater agreement and inter-rater reliability revealed high convergence as to the most important maladaptive facets for malignant narcissism. The scoring procedure, based on additive cou…

The Khoekhoegowab Personality Inventory: The Comparative Validity of a Locally Derived Measure of Traits.

Objective: This study explores a personality inventory derived from the results of an indigenous lexical study of personality. From the 272 most commonly used personality descriptors in Khoekhoegowab, the most-spoken of extant Khoesan click languages of southern Africa, an 11-factor model of personality-trait structure was identified. Here, the Khoekhoegowab Personality Inventory (KPI) was created based on those results. Its psychometric properties, the convergent and divergent validity of its scales, and its incremental validity over Big Five and Six traits for predicting physical and mental …

Who Are the Turkers? A Characterization of MTurk Workers Using the Personality Assessment Inventory.

As online data collection services such as Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk) gain popularity, the quality and representativeness of such data sources have gained research attention. To date, the majority of existing studies have compared MTurk workers with undergraduate samples, localized community samples, or other Internet-based samples, and thus, there remains little known about the personality and mental health constructs of MTurk workers relative to a national representative sample. The present study addresses these limitations and broadens the scope of existing research through the use of

Identifying Criminogenic Needs Using the Personality Assessment Inventory With Males Who Have Sexually Offended.

The present study investigated the relationships between the scales of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) and variables relevant to recidivism risk and criminogenic need to inform clinicians' use of the PAI for purposes of treatment planning and risk management. PAI profiles, risk measure and domain scores, and recidivism data were collected for 158 males who have been convicted of sexually offending. Data were analyzed to investigate whether select clinical scales of the PAI correlated with conceptually relevant domains of risk and/or recidivism. Our findings demonstrated that the ant

Homelessness and response styles on the Personality Assessment Inventory in a compensation-seeking sample.

The relationship between validity measures of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; Morey, 1991) and homelessness was investigated in this archival study. Two groups (N = 50) of compensation-seeking adults were included: homeless and domiciled. The purpose of the study was to determine if differences existed between these 2 groups on the validity measures of the PAI to inform the clinical evaluations of the compensation-seeking homeless. Results of independent sample t tests indicated no significant differences between the homeless and domiciled groups on the 4 validity scales and 2 addit
