The coherent nonlinear dynamics between collective excitations, such as magnons and phonons, drive emergent phenomena in quantum materials, yet their direct observation remains limited. Here, using double-terahertz-pump optical-probe spectroscopy, we report the direct observation of coherent magnon-phonon three-wave mixing in the layered antiferromagnetic insulator FePS3. We resolve both second- and third-order nonlinear responses of antiferromagnetic magnons and identify a suite of nonlinear couplings in two-dimensional (2D) coherent spectra, including definitive sum- and difference-frequency…

Understanding parasitic electrical feedthrough in microelectromechanical (MEMS) resonators is essential for controlling nonlinear spectral phenomena. Here, we demonstrate that electrical feedthrough fundamentally governs the symmetry of phononic frequency combs in a capacitively transduced MEMS resonator. Rather than acting as a mere measurement artifact, feedthrough forms a coherent electromechanical feedback pathway through direct AC coupling between drive and sense ports. This additional electrical channel modifies the effective electrostatic stiffness and damping, reshapes the intrinsic Du

While hyperbolic phonon-polaritons in van der Waals materials such as h-BN and α-MoO3 have driven major advances in mid-infrared (IR) nanophotonics, further progress at longer THz wavelengths has been hampered due to material limitations and experimental challenges. Here, we report the discovery of long-lived hyperbolic phonon-polaritons in the deep THz range in layered PbI2. Using room-temperature scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy, we achieved real-space imaging and broadband spectral analysis of PbI2 2D crystals transferred onto different substrates with high near-field

Polaritons in van-der-Waals materials (vdWMs) promise high confinement and multiple tailoring options by resonators and launching structures which conventionally require cumbersome lithography techniques. Optical programming of phase-change materials (PCMs) offers fast and reconfigurable fabrication of these structures. As the plasmonic PCM In3SbTe2 can be switched between a dielectric and metallic phase, In3SbTe2 is promising for optical programming of metallic launching structures to tailor and confine polaritons in vdWMs. Here, we combine the vdWM hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) with In3SbTe2

Electromagnetic hyperbolicity has driven key functionalities in nanophotonics, including super-resolution imaging, efficient energy control, and extreme light manipulation. Central to these advances are hyperbolic polaritons-nanometer-scale light-matter waves-spanning multiple energy-momentum dispersion orders with distinct mode profiles and incrementally high optical momenta. In this work, we report the mode conversion of hyperbolic polaritons across different dispersion orders by breaking the structure symmetry in engineered step-shape van der Waals (vdW) terraces. The mode conversion from t

The escalating research in the field of topology necessitates an understanding of the underlying rich physics behind the materials possessing unique features of non-trivial topology in both electronic and phononic states. Due to the interaction between electronic quasiparticles and spin degrees of freedom, the realization of magnetic topological materials has opened up a new frontier with unusual topological phases, however, these are rarely reported alongside phononic quasiparticle excitations. In this work, by first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, the intermetallic ferromagnet

The wide band gap γ-Bi2MoO6 (BMO) has tremendous potential in emergent solar harvesting applications. Here we present a combined experimental-first-principles density functional theory (DFT) approach to probe physical properties relevant to the light sensitivity of BMO like dynamic and structural stability, Raman and infrared absorption modes, value and nature of band gap (i.e., direct or indirect), dielectric constant, and optical absorption, etc. We solvothermally synthesized wide band gap Pca21 phase pure BMO (≳3 eV) for two different pH values of 7 and 9. Charge transport is important in organic molecular crystals (OMCs), where high carrier mobilities are desirable for a range of applications. … 100-400 K, where transport is phonon-limited. We show that e-ph scattering from low-frequency (LF) phonons with energy below 150 cm-1 primarily limits the mobility, even though these modes are not the ones with the strongest e-ph coupling. These LF modes are shown to consist mainly of intermolecular vibrations, with admixed long-range intramolecular char …

The phonon, elastic, and thermoelectric properties of Ti2CO2 are investigated by first-principles calculations. The dynamic and mechanical stabilities of Ti2CO2 are confirmed. The Ti2CO2 monolayer exhibits strong acoustic-optical coupling with the lowest optical frequency of 122.83 cm-1. The TA mode originates from the contribution of Ti(XY) vibrations and has the largest gruneisen parameter at the Γ point; the LA mode has the main contribution of O(XY) and Ti(XY) vibrations and has the lowest gruneisen parameter at the M point. The analysis of the phonon spectrum indicates that the vibration

Achiral organic materials show nearly negligible orbit angular momentum, whereas organic ferrimagnets with chirality and reduced electron-lattice scattering could fundamentally bridge the gap between ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism in the rapidly emerging field of ferrimagnetic spintronics. In this work, we report enantiomeric organic chiral ferrimagnets, where the chirality results from the molecular torsion by propeller-like arrangement of the donor and acceptor molecules. The ferrimagnetism results from the difference in electron-phonon coupling of the donor and acceptor inside the ch

The phonon transport properties of CuSCN and CuSeCN have been investigated using the density functional theory and semiclassical Boltzmann transport theory. The Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof functional shows an indirect (direct) electronic band gap of 2.18 eV (1.80 eV) for CuSCN (CuSeCN). The calculated phonon band structure shows that both compounds are dynamically stable. The Debye temperature of the acoustic phonons is 122 and 107 K for CuSCN and CuSeCN, respectively. The extended in-plane bond lengths as compared to the out-of-plane bond lengths result in phonon softening and hence, low lattice t…

Semiconductor nanostructures produced by wet chemical synthesis are extremely heterogeneous, which makes single particle techniques a useful way to interrogate their properties. In this paper the ultrafast dynamics of single CdTe nanowires are studied by transient absorption microscopy. The wires have lengths of several micrometers and lateral dimensions on the order of 30 nm. The transient absorption traces show very fast decays, which are assigned to charge carrier trapping into surface defects. The time constants vary for different wires due to differences in the energetics and/or density o

We study delay-dependent high-harmonic generation in a two-dimensional (2D) material modulated by two coherent phonons. In our first-principles calculations, two phonon modes are simultaneously initiated by displacive launch and a time-delayed probe is used to drive the HHG. We observe two robust enhancement windows (13 and50 fs) in the HHG plateau yield. Notably, these enhancements do not coincide with displacive extrema of either single composed phonon mode. Based on a minimal harmonic model, we describe this behavior involving the delay ordering and phonon-phase sensitivity. Through analysi…

It is now known that in addition to electrons, other quasiparticles such as phonons and magnons can also generate a thermal Hall signal. Graphite is a semimetal with extremely mobile charge carriers of both signs and a large lattice thermal conductivity. We present a study of the thermal Hall effect in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) samples with electronic, phononic, and phonon drag contributions to the thermal Hall signal. The measured thermal Hall conductivity (κ_{xy}) is 2 orders of magnitude higher than what is expected by electronic carriers according to the electrical Hall con…

Motivated by advances in pump-probe experiments and light-driven phenomena, we theoretically study the impact of pumped and driven phonons in Mott insulators which host multipole moments, thus going beyond conventional dipolar magnetism. As a case study, we examine pseudospin-1/2 Mott insulators hosting quadrupolar and octupolar moments, and investigate the effect of resonantly exciting E_{g} phonon modes which couple linearly to the quadrupoles. We show that this leads to multipolar precession, with the backaction resulting in pseudochiral phonon dynamics in the octupolar ordered phase. We fu…

Phonon polaritons (PhPs) enable subwavelength light control for infrared sensing, imaging, and optoelectronics, but conventional polar materials have narrow Reststrahlen bands, limiting applications. Materials that support PhPs with broad spectral range, strong field confinement, slow group velocity, and high-quality factor are therefore needed. Here, using monochromatic electron energy loss spectroscopy in a scanning transmission electron microscope, we demonstrate that ultrathin SrTiO3 membranes have the desired properties. Systematic measurements across varying thicknesses reveal two PhP br

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are emerging organic semiconductors with potential for energy conversion and storage. However, their electronic structure and electron-phonon interactions remain poorly understood. This issue is particularly important in 2D COFs, where covalent and van der Waals interactions along orthogonal directions manifest intrinsic anisotropy. In this work, six 2D COFs with varied bond linkages, stacking patterns, and side-group conjugation were synthesized to investigate their electron-phonon interaction properties. The results show that electron-phonon coupling (EPC)

Spin and orbital degrees of freedom are crucial in not only fundamental particles but also classical waves such as optical systems, wherein the spin-orbit interaction (SOI) of light provides new perspectives for manipulating electromagnetic waves. Elastic waves possess similar spin angular momentum (SAM) and orbital angular momentum (OAM). However, the elastic counterpart of SOI remains unexplored, even for ubiquitous elastic waveguides (WG). Here, we demonstrate the existence of elastic SOI in helical WG. We prove that the torsion and curvature of helical WG induces synthetic gauge potentials

The search for room-temperature superconductors is a major challenge in modern physics. The discovery of copper-oxide superconductors in 1986 brought hope but also revealed complex mechanisms that are difficult to analyze and compute. In contrast, the traditional electron-phonon coupling (EPC) mechanism facilitated the practical realization of superconductivity (SC) in metallic hydrogen. Since 2015, the discovery of new hydrogen compounds has shown that EPC can enable room-temperature SC under high pressures, driving extensive research. Advances in computational capabilities, especially exasca

Sieving specific particles from mixed samples is of great value in fields such as biochemistry and additive manufacturing. In this study, a particle sieving method for microfluidics was proposed based on a phononic crystal plate (PCP), the mechanism of which originates from the competition between the trapping effect of the resonant PCP-induced acoustic radiation force (ARF), disturbance effect of acoustic streaming (AS), and flushing effect of the continuous inlet flow on particles suspended in microfluidic channels. Specifically, particles with different sizes could be separated under inlet
