The authors report on a study carried out in the University Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Rabat on 13 cases of anencephaly without hydramnios in which post-maturity occurred. Pregnancy prolonged beyond 294 days is not a common situation (less than 6% of all pregnancies). The risks of prolonged pregnancy are fetal macrosomia, postmaturity syndrome, acute fetal distress during labor or meconium release. Close fetal monitoring by clinical examination, cardiotocography and ultrasound scan should be done. If oligohydramnios or abnormal cardiotocogram appear, termination of pregnancy by induction of labor or cesarean section is necessary. Conservative management is possible if antenatal monitoring is normal.
