INTRODUCTION: McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is characterized by café-au-lait-skin-pigmentation, polyostotic-fibrous-dysplasia and gonadotropin-independent precocious puberty. We report a female patient whose ovarian function normalized following unilateral oophorectomy at young age.
CASE: The patient initially presented with peripheral precocious puberty at age 1 and was treated with aromatase inhibitors and selective estrogen receptor modulator until the age of 12 years for pubertal suppression. Cystectomy was performed at age 16 due to persistent right complex ovarian cysts with menorrhagi

Besides growth hormone, several pharmaceutical products have been investigated for efficacy and safety in increasing short term growth or adult height. Short-term treatment with testosterone esters in boys with constitutional delay of growth and puberty is efficacious in generating secondary sex characteristics and growth acceleration. The addition of oxandrolone to growth hormone (GH) in Turner syndrome has an additive effect on adult height gain. Treatment with GnRH analogs is the established treatment of central precocious puberty, and its addition to GH therapy appears effective in increas

OBJECTIVE: The influence of androgens and oestrogens on growth is complex, and understanding their relative roles is important for optimising the treatment of children with various disorders of growth and puberty.
DESIGN: We examined the proportional roles of androgens and oestrogens in the regulation of pubertal growth in boys with constitutional delay of growth and puberty (CDGP). The study compared 6-month low-dose intramuscular testosterone treatment (1 mg/kg/month; n = 14) with per oral letrozole treatment (2.5 mg/day; n = 14) which inhibits conversion of androgens to oestrogen.

The aim of the study was to provide a descriptive analysis of familial male-limited precocious puberty (FMPP), which is a rare inherited disease caused by heterozygous constitutively activating mutations of the luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor gene (LHCGR). The patient was a ten-month-old boy, presenting with penile enlargement, pubic hair formation, and spontaneous erections. Based on the clinical manifestations and laboratory data, including sexual characteristics, serum testosterone levels, GnRH stimulation test, and bone age, this boy was diagnosed with peripheral precocious

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is typically described by the asociation of cutaneous (coffee-at-milk spots), endocrine (endocrine hyperfunction most often precocious puberty), and fibrous dysplasia (FD). In 90% of cases, AD manifests itself as a disorder of the craniofacial skeleton, affecting the maxilla, mandible, and even the temporal bone.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 14-year-old girl who presented with complaints of left otalgia with the notion of recurrent otitis evolving for one year, she presents as antecedent an early puberty. At the examina

Clinical manifestations and the need for treatment varies according to age in males with hypogonadism. Early foetal-onset hypogonadism results in disorders of sex development (DSD) presenting with undervirilised genitalia whereas hypogonadism established later in foetal life presents with micropenis, cryptorchidism and/or micro-orchidism. After the period of neonatal activation of the gonadal axis has waned, the diagnosis of hypogonadism is challenging because androgen deficiency is not apparent until the age of puberty. Then, the differential diagnosis between constitutional delay of puberty

Precocious puberty is defined as the development of secondary sexual characteristics before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys. Gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty (GDPP) results from the premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and mimics the physiological pubertal development, although at an inadequate chronological age. Hormonal evaluation, mainly through basal and GnRH-stimulated LH levels shows activation of the gonadotropic axis. Gonadotropin-independent precocious puberty (GIPP) is the result of the secretion of sex steroids, independently from

47, XXY or Klinefelter syndrome (KS), the most common chromosomal aberration in males, is characterized by either absolute or relative hypogonadism with frequent decline in serum testosterone (T) following the onset of puberty. Decreased T levels are the result of testicular dysfunction with decrease in size of Leydig cells, and loss of germs and Sertoli cells leading to tubular hyalinization. Increase in estradiol results from over-expression of aromatase CYP19. Deficient androgen production and observed varied response of end-organs to T leads to delayed progression of puberty with decreased

A rarely reported phenomenon of rapid-tempo puberty in which the physical changes of puberty and testosterone levels increase very rapidly has not been reported outside apart from in two reviews. The resulting rapid advancement of skeletal age causes early completion of growth with shorter adult stature than expected. This appears to be genetic given its occurrence in the present report in two families, one with three brothers, one with two. We also describe potential treatments and found for the youngest that early initiation of standard therapy preserved or reclaimed adult height (AH) potent

Diabetic nephropathy is a critical complication of patients with type 1 diabetes, while epidemiological studies were scarce among Asian countries. We conducted a cross-sectional study to identify factors associated with diabetic nephropathy by questionnaires, using student's t-test, chi-square test, and multivariable logistic regression. Among 898 participants, 16.7% had diabetic nephropathy. Compared with non-diabetic nephropathy patients, the patients with diabetic nephropathy had significantly higher percentage with onset age of type 1 diabetes between puberty and under 30 years old (female

OBJECTIVES: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists are used to suppress physical signs of puberty and improve height outcomes by decelerating bone age maturation in patients with central precocious puberty (CPP). Published data assessing biochemical and clinical parameters in patients with CPP treated with six-monthly triptorelin beyond 12 months is scant.
METHODS: Thirty-seven girls with CPP were treated with 22.5 mg six-monthly intramuscular triptorelin. We assessed luteinizing hormone (LH) and E2 levels throughout treatment and changes in pubertal stage, bone age (BA), and predicted adult

BACKGROUND: Whether adjunctive recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) improves near-final adult height (NFAH) during gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog (GnRHa) therapy for central precocious puberty (CPP) remains uncertain, and predicted adult height (PAH) may reflect treatment selection and prognosis.
METHODS: We analyzed a single-center retrospective cohort of 235 children with CPP who initiated GnRHa between January 2018 and December 2020. The primary endpoint was chart-recorded NFAH in the female-only maturity-ascertained cohort (n = 91); the criterion-confirmed all-sex set included 9

Aromatase is the rate-limiting enzyme in estrogen biosynthesis. The third generation aromatase inhibitors (AIs), represented by letrozoleand and anastrozole, can combine with aromatase, effectively reducing the estrogen level in the body. Because of its high efficiency, selectivity and reversibility, it has been used in the treatment of McCune-Albright syndrome, familial male-limited precocious puberty, gynecomastia, and adolescent boy with short stature. The good efficacy and safety of AIs have been observed. However, so far the drug instructions of AIs usually do not show indications for chi

CONTEXT: The scarcity of robust long-term safety data has contributed to increasing restrictions on the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog (GnRHa) treatment in transgender and gender diverse adolescents (TGDAs) in several countries. Methodological limitations of earlier studies have led to controversy and debate, underscoring the urgent need for high-quality evidence in this field.
OBJECTIVE: To present a study design using target trial emulation (TTE) to evaluate long-term safety of GnRHa treatment in TGDAs using observational data from national healthcare registries, and highlight

Functional follicular ovarian cysts are frequently reported in girls with peripheral precocious puberty (PP). These cysts are usually self-limiting and resolve spontaneously. Several drugs like antiestrogens (tamoxifen) and new aromatase inhibitors are seldom used for treatment. Here we report a girl with peripheral PP who presented with unilateral enlargement of the ovary and a recurrent autonomous ovarian cyst. No skin pigmentation or bone anomaly was noted. The patient was successfully treated with anastrozole, a highly selective aromatase inhibitor. No adverse reaction was noted. Anastrozo

Antidepressants are widely used around the world, primarily for the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety and pain syndromes. Women who use antidepressants often continue to use them during pregnancy. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, including fluoxetine, are the main class of antidepressants prescribed to pregnant women. It is known that fluoxetine crosses the placental-blood barrier and is excreted in breast milk. Consequently, indirect exposure of the infant occurs. Knowing that fluoxetine alters the balance of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, several studies have sho
