Immunohistochemical Expression of CDC7 in Dentigerous Cyst, Odontogenic Keratocyst and Radicular Cyst.

CDC7 is a serine/threonine kinase which has an essential role in initiation of DNA proliferation and S phase. It increases the invasion and proliferation in many pathologic lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the expression of CDC7 in the most common odontogenic cysts. We evaluated 17 dentigerous cysts, 18 odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) and 13 radicular cysts immunohistochemically. The mean expression of CDC7 was analyzed using ANOVA and Post-HOC methods. All specimens revealed CDC7 expression. Higher expression of CDC7 in OKC and radicular cyst was shown in comparison to dentigerous cyst (P …

P63 and Ki-67 expression in radicular cyst.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the current study was to identify the expression of P63 and its relation to odontogenic epithelial cell proliferation, severity of the inflammatory infiltrate and size of radicular cysts (RCs). METHODS: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 30 cases of paraffin-embedded RCs were randomly selected from the archive. P63 and Ki-67 expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Epithelial P63 expression was absent in four (13.3%), weak in 10 (33.3%), and moderate in 16 (53.3%) cases. In the connective tissue wall of RC, P63 expression was absent in two (6…

Radicular cyst in deciduous maxillary molars: a rarity.

Radicular cyst arising from deciduous teeth is exceedingly rare accounting for <1% of all radicular cysts. A total of 122 cases have been reported to date in the English language literature. We present a rare case of a radicular cyst associated with a decayed deciduous maxillary molar tooth without any history of prior pulp therapy. Our aim is to emphasize the recognition of inflammatory radicular lesions associated with deciduous teeth which may adversely impact underlying permanent successor.

Piezosurgery versus conventional surgery in radicular cyst enucleation.

OBJECTIVE: This study compared the use of piezosurgery and conventional surgery in radicular cyst enucleation. STUDY DESIGN: The study was conducted with 29 patients who were radiologically and cytologically prediagnosed with radicular cysts in the jaw region. Nineteen patients were treated using piezosurgery, and 10 were treated using conventional surgical procedures. Surgical procedures were evaluated according to the following criteria: hemorrhage, soft-tissue damage, manipulation complexity, major perforation areas on the enucleated cyst tissue, and approximate operation duration. Patient…

Management of infected radicular cyst by surgical decompression.

Treatment of maxillary incisor with an associated cystic lesion by conventional endodontic therapy combined with decompression is reported. Although small cystic lesions frequently heal simply with endodontic therapy, larger lesions may need additional treatment. In some cases, when surgical enucleation is elected, there is a chance for inadvertent injury to adjacent teeth or structures even though periapical surgery has a role in endodontics. Therefore a more conservative approach of decompression and a workable protocol for this was attempted with success and is presented here.

The expression of cytokeratin in keratocystic odontogenic tumor, orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst, dentigerous cyst, radicular cyst and dermoid cyst.

The epithelial lining of odontogenic keratocysts exhibits either parakeratosis or orthokeratosis. In 2005, the WHO classified odontogenic keratocysts with parakeratosis as keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOT). Odontogenic keratocysts with orthokeratosis were not classified as odontogenic tumors, but instead referred to as orthokeratinized odontogenic cysts (OOC). To clarify the difference between these two lesions, we investigated their biological characteristics using immunohistochemical studies for cytokeratins (CK) in KCOT and OOC as well as in dentigerous cysts (DC), radicular cysts (RC)…
