Serosurveillance and Postvaccination Seromonitoring of Peste Des Petits Ruminants in Small Ruminants in Central Gondar Zone, Northwest Ethiopia.

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a highly contagious transboundary viral disease of small ruminants caused by the PPR virus (PPRV). Despite Ethiopia's goal of eradicating PPR by 2027 through a risk-based vaccination strategy, the disease remains endemic, with 554 outbreaks reported nationwide. This cross-sectional study was conducted in the North Gondar Zone, Ethiopia, between June 2024 and February 2025 to evaluate antibody responses in vaccinated small ruminants and estimate PPRV seroprevalence in unvaccinated flocks. A multistage cluster sampling design was used to select the study sites…

The autonomic correlates of dysphoric rumination and post-rumination savoring.

Trait dysphoric rumination is a transdiagnostic factor associated with depression and anxiety that has also been linked with blunted respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), an index of reduced emotion regulation capacity. However, the autonomic correlates of state dysphoric rumination remain unclear. We examined the physiological correlates of state dysphoric rumination and the potential repairing effects of savoring on autonomic functioning. To provide a comprehensive assessment of autonomic correlates, we examined changes in parasympathetic (RSA) and sympathetic (cardiac pre-ejection period, PEP

Rethinking Rumination.

The response styles theory (Nolen-Hoeksema, 1991) was proposed to explain the insidious relationship between rumination and depression. We review the aspects of the response styles theory that have been well-supported, including evidence that rumination exacerbates depression, enhances negative thinking, impairs problem solving, interferes with instrumental behavior, and erodes social support. Next, we address contradictory and new findings. Specifically, rumination appears to more consistently predict the onset of depression rather than the duration, but rumination interacts with negative cog

Multiple drivers of genomic novelty across ruminants.

Ruminants are among the most ecologically and economically important groups of mammals and have accumulated some of the most remarkable traits and genomes across metazoans. Using genomic-scale data representing all ruminant families, we examined the traits that explain evolutionary rates across ruminant lineages and genes. Bayesian phylogenetic regression revealed that ruminant genome-wide rates are associated with chromosome number, longevity, sexual dimorphism, and domestication. Orthogonal dimensions of genomic rates showed that genes with the greatest rate change are associated with domest…

URINARY OBSTRUCTION IN CAMELIDS AND ZOO RUMINANTS.

Ten cases of urolithiasis causing complete urinary obstruction were identified from male zoo animals in Canada, Europe, Australia, and South Africa: two Bactrian camels (Camelus bactrianus); two Ankole-Watusi (Bos taurus); and single cases in a dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius); guanaco (Lama guanicoe); European bison (Bison bonasus); yak (Bos grunniens); scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah); and common duiker (Sylvicapra grimmia). Age at presentation ranged from 15 mon to 16 yr; four of ten were castrated and six of ten intact. Of the ten reviewed cases, one animal was euthanized without at

A respirometry system designed for small ruminants.

This technical note describes a small ruminant respiration chamber system designed to accurately quantify the production of carbon dioxide ( … respectively, demonstrating the system's accuracy in quantifying livestock GHG emissions from small ruminants, such as young cattle, goats, and sheep. Therefore, this system represents a viable methodology for nutritional and environmental studies with small ruminants. Future studies conducted in this facility can contribute to a better understanding of the …
