The synthesis and characterization of new organosilicon derivatives of N(3)P(3)Cl(6), N(3)P(3)[NH(CH(2))(3)Si(OEt)(3)](6) (1), N(3)P(3)[NH(CH(2))(3)Si(OEt)(3)](3)[NCH(3)(CH(2))(3)CN](3) (2), and N(3)P(3)[NH(CH(2))(3)Si(OEt)(3)](3)[HOC(6)H(4)(CH(2))CN](3) (3) are reported. Pyrolysis of 1, 2, and 3 in air and at several temperatures results in nanostructured materials whose composition and morphology depend on the temperature of pyrolysis and the substituents of the phosphazenes ring. Retrospective clinical and histopathological review of eight silicone oil-filled enucleated eyeballs using light microscopy was carried out in our department of ocular pathology during a period of six years. In all cases, silicone oil vacuoles, both free and incorporated within macrophages were seen in all the retinal layers. We report a case of vulvar silicone granulomas following injection of liquid silicone into the labia. The patient is a 51-yr-old female who presented with vulvar pain and enlarged, indurated labia majora. In the past, she had undergone bilateral labial cosmetic augmentation with a silicone-based filler injected directly into the labia and into the gluteal regions. Significant advances during the past decade in silicone hydrogel lenses have made them the primary mode for new contact lens wear. Silicone endoprostheses are used to replace loss of support in tracheobronchial cartilage. The main silicone stents are similar to those of the Montgomery T tube, the Westaby, Dumon and Cooper-Hood prostheses. Injectable silicones have been applied to an undetermined number of men for penile augmentation. The practitioners of this art, whether lay or medical, have allegedly long discontinued treating penile size. A 38-year-old woman had a migratory silicone granuloma of the left upper portion of the chest and left upper arm secondary to a ruptured breast implant. The initial diagnosis was factitial panniculitis. With the common use of silicone in cosmetic surgery, physicians should inquire into a possible history of silicone injections or implants before ascribing a factitial cause to foreign-body granulomas.

Silicone implant arthroplasty is, arguably, the most effective treatment for the majority of patients with symptomatic arthritis in the hand and wrist. In 1985 the problem of silicone synovitis was first brought to our attention. A cosmetically acceptable lotion containing a silicone protectant, a keratolytic, a bacteriocidal agent and antipruritic substances, was clinically tested in 208 persons with various dermatoses.Twenty-four-hour closed patch tests on humans and intradermal tests in laboratory animals indicate the lotion not to be a sensitizer. Subacute and chronic housewives' eczema and contact dermatitis of the hands, uncomplicated "diaper rash," periaural dermatitis due to excessive moisture, and certain hyperkeratotic dermatoses responded satisfactorily to the use of the lotion.
