BACKGROUND: Tattooing in prison represents a unique combination of risk factors for blood borne virus (BBV) transmission because it is illicitly performed by untrained operators with homemade, unsterile, and frequently-shared equipment. It occurs in a setting where a high proportion of people are already infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and other BBVs.

BACKGROUND: Tattooing is a commonly used procedure for camouflage of depigmented lesions, especially in vitiligo.
OBJECTIVE: To find a cheap and effective instrument for manual tattooing.
METHODS: A watchmaker's pin-vise has been described for use as an instrument along with sewing needles for tattooing in vitiligo.
RESULTS: A watchmaker's pin-vise is a cheap and effective for manual tattooing of vitiligo.
CONCLUSION: A watchmaker's pin-vise loaded with sewing needles is an effective, cheap, and sterilizable instrument for tattooing. Sewing needles can be used as disposable needles.

Recently, sporotrichosis caused by Sporothrix brasiliensis transmitted during tattooing process was described in the epicenter of the Brazilian epidemic sporotrichosis. We report a similar case of this mycosis in a patient recently tattooed, but probably infected by a sick cat instead of via a contaminated procedure. Clinical cure was attained after two months of oral itraconazole. In the hyperendemic S. brasiliensis regions of sporotrichosis, health professionals must be aware of atypical transmissions of this fungus.

This study establishes a proof-of-concept that a tattoo device can target intra-dermal drug delivery against cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). The selected drug is oleylphosphocholine (OlPC) formulated as liposomes, particles known to be prone to macrophage ingestion. We here report the successful but unusual course of colonic tattooing in a patient with a carcinoma in situ in a polyp. A 70-year-old woman was admitted for persistent diarrhea, occult fecal blood, and anemia. During colonoscopy, a pedunculated large polyp in the sigmoid colon occluding the lumen was removed successfully. Thirty patients with localised stable vitiligo were selected from the Out Patient Department for cosmetic tattooing. Of them, 19 cases (63.3%) had skin patches, 9 cases (30%) had mucosal patches, and 2 cases (6.7%) had both skin and mucosal involvement. After complete clinical evaluation, cosmetic tattooing was performed on these patients, and they were followed up for 6 months.
