The need for best practice in catheterization.

Catheterization is a common procedure undertaken hundreds of times every day in a variety of healthcare settings. It is estimated that approximately 25% of the 9 million adults treated by the NHS every year will be catheterized at some point (Nazarko, 2009). The majority of these catheterizations are performed by nurses and nursing students. As this is such a common procedure, it is very easy to become complacent and blasé, yet this is one of the most intimate procedures that we, as nurses, can carry out.

Correlates of tobacco quit attempts and missed opportunity for tobacco cessation among the adult population in India.

INTRODUCTION: Tobacco cessation is crucial to reduce tobacco-related diseases and premature deaths. Quitting efforts can be enhanced through brief routine interventions at health facilities because healthcare providers are highly trusted, resulting in stronger adherence to their advice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study used data on tobacco users aged 15-49 years (n = 93,522) collected as part of the fourth round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2015-16. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were carried out using STATA (version 13) to understand the socioeconomic and demographic cor

[Nightmares: prevalence and treatment in secondary mental healthcare].

Nightmares are highly prevalent in the general population (2-8%) and are associated with mental problems. As a result, nightmares are likely to be more prevalent among patients in secondary mental healthcare. They can be treated with 'imagery rehearsal therapy' (IRT). With IRT the scenario of a recurring nightmare is changed, after which the 'new dream' is imagined several times a day.
AIM: To assess the prevalence of nightmares and their associated problems in secondary mental healthcare and to find out whether IRT is also effective in patients with diverse mental disorders.
METHO

Point-of-care tests for syphilis and yaws in a low-income setting - A qualitative study of healthcare worker and patient experiences.

INTRODUCTION: The human treponematoses comprise venereal syphilis and the three non-venereal or endemic treponematoses yaws, bejel, and pinta. Serological assays remain the most common diagnostic method for all treponemal infections. Point-of-care tests (POCTs) for syphilis and yaws allow testing without further development of infrastructure in populations where routine laboratory facilities are not available. Alongside the test's performance characteristics assessed through diagnostic evaluation, it is important to consider broader issues when rolling out a POCT. Experience with malaria POCT

The Success of Newborn Screening Beyond War: An International Collaborative Case of Purine Nucleoside Phosphorylase (PNP) Deficiency.

Ukraine's healthcare system has shown remarkable resilience in continuing newborn screening (NBS), beyond the challenges of war. Amid the conflict, a Ukrainian newborn screened positive for an extremely rare severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID)-purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) deficiency. Ukraine successfully carried out NBS on a neonatal dried blood spot (DBS) by real-time PCR, which showed remarkably reduced T-cell receptor and kappa-deleting recombination excision circles (TREC/KREC). Retesting was delayed due to communication difficulties with the family. Whole exome sequencing on
