Post-treatment endodontic disease (PTED) may be defined by the presence of a periapical radiolucency in a previously root-filled tooth when the lesion can no longer be assumed to be healing. When a diagnosis of PTED is made, theoretically only three management options remain: no treatment (review and reassess), endodontic retreatment (nonsurgical or surgical), or extraction (including root resection). The purpose of this paper is to provide clinicians with a current and clinically relevant summary of the management options for PTED, with an emphasis on aetiology, case selection, and related ou

BACKGROUND: Large cavity designs and access cavities impair endodontically treated tooth fracture resistance. As the tooth's strength is known to reduce significantly after the root canal treatment, occlusal loading as a result of functions such as chewing, biting and certain parafunctional tendencies makes the endodontically treated tooth vulnerable to fracture. Hence, after endodontic treatment, it is vital to give adequate and appropriate restorative material to avoid tooth fractures. Accordingly, the choice of such restorative material should be dictated by the property of fracture resista

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate different direct restoration techniques on various cavity designs in anterior endodontically treated teeth (ETT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety upper central incisors (n = 90) were selected, endodontically treated, and divided into three groups (n = 30) accordingly to the cavity design: minimal endodontic cavity access (group A), endodontic access + mesial class III cavity (group B), and endodontic access + two class III cavities (group C). Three subgroups (n = 10) were then created accordingly to the restoration technique: nano hybrid composite restoration (subgroup a

Post and core systems have long been used in dentistry for the purposes of replacing missing coronal tooth structure, retaining the core, and providing sufficient retention and resistance form to the final restoration to re-establish original form and function. While Part 1 of this two-part article provided a history of post and core systems and materials and discussed empirical data regarding fiber-reinforced post systems, this second part of the article focuses on an alternative approach for developing a fiber-reinforced post and core system using a monoblock system via the injectable resin

This study compares the fracture strength of teeth restored with conventional round fiber post (CP) and bundle post (BP) in two different lengths. A total of 48 mandibular premolars were selected. Endodontic treatment was performed, and the premolars were divided into four groups (n = 12 per group): Group C9 = 9-mm CP; Group C5 = 5-mm CP; Group B9 = 9-mm BP; Group B5 = 5-mm BP. Post spaces were prepared, and posts were disinfected with alcohol. Silane was applied, and posts were placed with self-etch dual-cure adhesive. The core structures were created using dual-cure adhesive and standardized

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: A fiber post is indicated when there is a significant loss of tooth structure and additional support for the restoration is needed. However, whether the use of a glass fiber post affects the fracture susceptibility of the restored anterior teeth is unknown.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the fracture resistance of endodontically treated and restored anterior teeth and to answer the research question, "Does the use of a fiber post influence the fracture resistance of endodontically treated and restored anterior teeth compa

BACKGROUND: The authors present two case reports of patients exhibiting pyogenic granulomas in the maxillary labial mucosa, which were related to an apical fenestration of a primary incisor.
CASE DESCRIPTIONS: Several researchers have reported that the gingival wound and surrounding inflammatory tissue typically heal spontaneously after extraction of a fenestrated primary tooth. However, in the cases presented here, the gingival lesion did not heal after the fenestrated teeth were extracted.
CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: After extracting fenestrated teeth, clinicians need to examine the labial area

Background. Odontodysplasia is an uncommon condition. It can be localised or generalised, isolated or part of a syndrome. Case Report. We first report the case of an 8.5-year-old boy who presented with abnormally shaped teeth and multiple intraoral abscesses. Findings of clinical and radiographic examinations were consistent with those of generalised odontodysplasia. A 2-step, conservative treatment plan was executed with a 10-year followup. Step 1 was root canal treatment of nonvital teeth. Step 2 was crowning without preparation of new vital, erupted, and malformed teeth. The second case is

A case with a dilacerated maxillary permanent central incisor, treated with forced eruption technique is illustrated and the results of the 4-year follow up are presented. After the successful eruption of the tooth, the root development was completed and the root canal was obliterated. The 4-year follow-up results revealed the tooth to be still functional and the radiographic evaluation showed that the periodontal and periapical tissues were intact and healthy. In conclusion, the impacted dilacerated incisor diagnosed in the early mixed dentition should be treated with the aid of orthodontic t

Dental trauma is relatively common and can occur secondary to sporting injuries, falls, fights, or accidents. According to the International Association of Dental Traumatology, 50% of children experience dental trauma between the ages of 8 to 12. There are many options for endodontic and restorative treatments of traumatized teeth. Ribbond, which was introduced in the market in 1992, consists of bondable, reinforced ultra-high strength polyethylene fibers. Ribbond may be an option for the treatment of traumatized teeth because of its aesthetic properties; absence of additional tooth preparatio

Internal bleaching with a 30 percent hydrogen peroxide solution is aesthetically very successful in the short term; however, in the long term, the success rate falls below 50 percent. This procedure is associated with a risk of external root resorption, documented both clinically and experimentally. The etiology of resorption and the effects of 30 percent hydrogen peroxide on dental tissues suggest that this chemical should be avoided. Internal bleaching is possible using sodium perborate mixed with water. The aesthetic outcome is still acceptable and the potential for resorption may be minimi

Restorative and endodontic procedures have been recently developed in an attempt to preserve the vitality of dental pulp after exposure to external stimuli, such as caries infection or traumatic injury. When damage to dental pulp is reversible, pulp wound healing can proceed, whereas irreversible damage induces pathological changes in dental pulp, eventually requiring its removal. Nonvital teeth lose their defensive abilities and become severely damaged, resulting in extraction. Development of regeneration therapy for the dentin-pulp complex is important to overcome limitations with presently

Apexification is the most widely accepted procedure for the treatment of nonvital immature teeth. Single visit apexification is less time consuming, more economical and an easily acceptable technique with the aim of inducing the formation of a hard tissue barrier, thus allowing proper condensation of gutta percha in the root canal. Factors considered during this procedure are: i. Debridement of root canal minimizing the infection and filling the root canal space with resorbable calcification inducing material i.e. Ca(OH)2. ii. Minimal mechanical intervention to maintain the integrity and vascu

The Part 1 report revealed the microbiologic etiology and introduced the oxidation-reduction potential (Eh) as a major factor in acute cellulitis exacerbations during endodontic therapy. Facultative streptococci were the predominant group of microbes specifically isolated. This Part 2 study revealed a 9.5% incidence of cellulitis exacerbations in patients during endodontic treatment of 168 primarily intact nonvital teeth. These teeth were usually asymptomatic, manifesting radiographic periapical lesions without fistulous tracts and necrotic canals. This category of pulpal periapical inflammati
