BACKGROUND Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection in which ocular involvement is relatively uncommon. This report describes the clinical presentation, treatment, and visual outcome of a patient with syphilitic uveitis. Adult-onset neuroblastoma is rare and little is known about its biology and clinical course. There is no established therapy for adult-onset neuroblastoma. Anti-GD2 immunotherapy is now standard therapy in children with high-risk neuroblastoma; however, its use has not been reported in adults. PURPOSE: The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the early and long-term outcomes of the surgical treatment of primary aldosteronism (PA), the most common surgically correctable cause of endocrine hypertension.
METHODS: Serum Potassium levels, blood pressure values, and aldosterone/renin ratio (ARR) were assessed in 128 patients undergoing unilateral adrenalectomy for PA, before and after surgery. Esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare malignant tumor of neuroectodermal origin. It usually presents with nonspecific symptoms, such as nasal obstruction, epistaxis, and pain, but has an aggressive course if the treatment is delayed. The authors report a case of esthesioneuroblastoma in a 47-year-old woman, treated with extensive surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Despite intensive treatment, the patient developed a local recurrence with systemic metastasis and succumbed 4 months later.

METHODS: The records of 22 consecutive children operated on before the age of 12 months at St. Erik's Eye Hospital over a 5-year period (1991-96) were reviewed retrospectively. Linear Snellen visual acuity (VA) at last check, presence of stereoacuity, nystagmus, strabismus and other complications are accounted for. Subject age at last check ranged from 4 to 9 years.

Sixty patients with acetabular fractures were treated surgically. All fractures were a result of high energy trauma, most with significant associated injuries.
