Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) is described as a nerve injury arising from trauma. For practical management purposes, two general types of UNE have been defined. One group is comprised of those cases in which identifiable bone deformity is present at the elbow and the other comprises cases in which only nerve dysfunction is found. In a patient treated with intravenous streptokinase, inflammation developed at the infusion site followed by permanent ulnar and median neuropathy. Although adverse streptokinase infusion site reactions have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration, no other cases have been reported in the medical literature. We suggest that extravasated streptokinase may produce permanent ulnar and median neuropathy.

Quantitative assessment of the vibration threshold of the second and fifth fingertips at 125Hz was performed on 28 affected limbs of 17 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) together with a median and ulnar sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV) study. BACKGROUND: Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) is the second most common entrapment neuropathy of the upper limb, involving physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics, and plastic surgery. Impingement/entrapment of the ulnar nerve by the intermuscular septum at the distal arm is a common cause of recurrent or recalcitrant ulnar neuropathy following ulnar nerve decompression or anterior transposition. Primary entrapment/impingement of the ulnar nerve along the intermuscular septum may also occur. Evaluation with both ultrasound (US) and MRI can identify entrapment of the ulnar nerve at the intermuscular septum, while dynamic assessment with US can also identify dynamic subluxation of the ulnar nerve over the intermuscular septum.

INTRODUCTION: Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) is the second most common entrapment neuropathy. Our goal was to create and analyze a grading system for UNE electrodiagnostic severity.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed EMG reports with UNE. We then classified 112 limbs as having mild, moderate, or severe grade UNE based on electrodiagnostic findings. The association between presenting symptoms and signs, EMG findings, treatment type, and electrodiagnostic grade was statistically analyzed.
RESULTS: Seventeen limbs (15.2%) had mild, 80 (71.4%) had moderate, and 15 (13.4%) had severe UNE.

PURPOSE: Ulnar neuropathy at the cubital tunnel (UCT) is diagnosed on the basis of history, physical examination, and nerve conduction studies (NCSs); however, the wide spectrum of findings often makes the diagnosis difficult.
