An unusual case of dissimilar histologic neoplasms in the same kidney is presented. An 86-year-old man had renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma in the same kidney eight years after therapy for urinary bladder carcinoma. These two different types of neoplasms were identified preoperatively by angiography. A peculiar hamartoma was also found in the same kidney.

Leiomyosarcomas are rare, highly aggressive tumors of the urinary bladder. With approximately 200 cases reported in the literature, there is limited data on the prognosis and treatment of these neoplasms. Curative treatment approaches are primarily characterized by radical surgery, especially radical cystectomy. However, this procedure is associated with significant impairments in the quality of life for patients. This circumstance forms the basis for considering a curative treatment approach with partial cystectomy for a 19-year-old man with leiomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder.

BACKGROUND: Lynch syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder that predisposes individuals affected to certain malignancies. Colon and endometrial cancers are the malignancies most highly associated with Lynch syndrome. However, growing body of evidence links Lynch syndrome to urological cancers.
OBJECTIVE: This review aims to clarify the type of urological malignancies that fall under the Lynch-associated cancer spectrum.
METHODS: Using PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search between January 1990 to February 2018, was conducted using the MEDLINE database with the application of the following

We report a 50 year old male who presented with a short history of gross hematuria. An ultrasonogram detected a mass arising from the right lateral wall of the urinary bladder. Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed that the mass was a calcified lesion mimicking a bladder stone. Cystoscopy confirmed the presence of the calcified lesion and biopsy revealed a rare biphasic tumor of the urinary bladder comprising of osteosarcoma and a papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential. The rarity of this tumor and its associated exuberant calcification make this case an interesting one

In villages with endemic nephropathy (EN) high incidence and mortality rates of some urinary system tumors are reported. Age-adjusted incidences of renal pelvic and ureteral neoplasms were 46/10(5) in females and 27/10(5) in males; for urinary bladder tumors these figures were 16/10(5) and 35/10(5). The frequency of parenchymal kidney tumors was similar to that reported for the country as a whole. An increased relative risk of developing urinary system tumors was observed in patients with EN and with advancing age (only in women). Smoking did not relate to the occurrence of these neoplasms. No

Paragangliomas are extra-adrenal catecholamine-secreting neuroendocrine tumors that can present with adrenergic signs and symptoms. The urinary bladder is a rare location for a paraganglioma, and these tumors must be distinguished from other more common bladder neoplasms. In this case report, we discuss a 59 year-old woman who initially presented with tachycardia, palpitations, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and weight loss. Laboratory evaluation showed significantly elevated catecholamines in the plasma and urine. A CT (Computed Tomography) scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed an en

Extra-skeletal osteosarcoma (ESOS) is a rare neoplasm that represents less than 2% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Common reported sites of involvement include limbs, retroperitoneum, chest wall and buttocks. ESOS arising primarily in parenchymatous organs are extremely uncommon, with the involvement of the urinary bladder is even rarer. We herein report a case of primary ESOS of the urinary bladder in a 48 year-old male patient.

Mucinous cystadenoma of the urinary bladder is a very rare tumor and only a handful of cases have been described in the literature. It can easily be missed on cystoscopic examination as the lesion is not intramucosal. In addition, extensive workup is required to rule out borderline or frank malignant neoplasm elsewhere in the body. Due to its scarcity and diagnostic challenges, we report a mucinous benign cystic lesion arising in the dome of the urinary bladder.

Primary malignant melanoma of the urinary bladder is a rare neoplasm, with only 19 cases reported to date. We present a case report of an 84-year-old woman who underwent transurethral resection of a mucosal melanoma of bladder origin. She had no previous or concurrent diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma. The patient underwent transurethral resection of the tumor 5 months before presentation at our center with a recurrent, muscle-invasive tumor located in the bladder trigone, with evidence of bone metastasis. Malignant melanoma of the urinary bladder carries a poor prognosis and poses a therapeutic

Bladder cancer is the most prevalent malignant neoplasm of the urinary system. However, current techniques for bladder cancer diagnosis and prognosis are associated with significant patient discomfort and potential risk of urinary tract infection. To address these issues, we propose a non-invasive urine detection chip for isolating and identifying bladder cancer-related cells and extracellular vesicles. This chip enables simultaneous capture of exfoliated cells and blood cells for analysis, followed by microparticle-based filtration to remove cells and cell debris before capturing and analyzin

Primary carcinoid tumor of the urinary bladder is a very rare neoplasm. We report here a case of primary carcinoid tumor of the urinary bladder with an unusual cytological feature in a 72-year-old Japanese man. A bladder polypoid mass was incidentally found by ultrasonography during the follow-up of a benign prostate hyperplasia. Histological examination of the transurethrally resected tissue revealed that the upper part of the mass was a tumor showing tubuloglandular anastomosing structures. Most of the tumor cells had peculiar subnuclear eosinophilic granules. The features of the granules we

Neoplasms originating from the transitional epithelium of the urinary bladder are rare in children. This paper examines the clinical, epidemiological and histopathological characteristics of 3 such cases. The patients were males aged 4, 8 and 14 years at the time of diagnosis. Total painless hematuria was the presenting symptom in all of them. There was no history of previous exposure to dyes or other chemicals, but 1 patient was a systematic cigarette smoker. All tumors were solitary, noninfiltrating, grade 1 neoplasms. Following their local resection, no recurrences were noted 3-8 years post

Bladder cancer and upper urothelial tract carcinoma are common diseases with a high risk of recurrence, thus necessitating follow-up after initial treatment. The management of non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (NMIBC) after transurethral resection involves surveillance, intravesical therapy, and cytology with cystoscopy. Urinary cytology, cystoscopy, and radiological evaluation of the upper urinary tract are recommended during follow-up in the international urological guidelines. Cystoscopy is the standard examination for the first assessment and follow-up of NMIBC, and urine cytology is a

Urinary bladder adenocarcinomas are rare malignancies accounting for approximately 2.5% of all urothelial neoplasms. Intestinal metaplasia of the urothelium indicates the presence of intestinal-type goblet cells and was generally observed to coexist with or to precede the diagnosis of bladder adenocarcinomas. Controversy continues of whether intestinal metaplasia is an acquired precancerous lesion, secondary to different insults to the urothelium, or a concomitant lesion in glandular carcinogenesis. Patients with neurogenic bladders are particularly at risk for developing bladder cancer, mostl

Nephrogenic adenoma is a rare benign tumour-like lesion within the urothelial mucosa of the urinary tract. It may be an incidental finding in bladder of a patient presenting with haematuria, dysuria and bladder growth after renal allograft transplant. Clinically it mimics bladder neoplasm. Definite diagnosis is established by histological examination of tumor. Though it attains an extensive spread in bladder mucosa and has a high tendency to recur, the clinical course is benign.

BACKGROUND: Non-epithelial bladder neoplasms are rare, and there are only approximately 250 cases of bladder leiomyoma reported in the English literature. We present a case of bladder leiomyoma in a patient with recurrent acute cystitis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old woman presented to a local clinic with frequent urination and dysuria and was diagnosed with acute cystitis. Her symptoms temporarily improved after taking oral antibiotics, but then flared up repeatedly. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a bladder neck leiomyoma and multiple uterine fibroids. A case of primary adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder occurring in a patient with type 1 multiple endocrine adenomatosis (MEA) is presented. The patient was a 36-year-old female who had a past history of type 1 multiple endocrine adenomatosis, namely, adenomatosis of the parathyroid gland, insulin and gastrin-producing adenomatosis of the pancreas, and prolactin-producing pituitary adenoma. She was admitted in January 1981 with the complaints of gross hematuria, pollakisuria and micturition pain lasting for about one year and a half. Cystoscopic examination revealed four solid tumors in the

74 cytologic examinations of the urinary sediment were conducted on 57 women with malignant neoplasms of the genital organs in order to evaluate the clinical suspicion of tumor infiltration of the bladder wall. It turned out to be a sensitive indicator of the infiltration of the bladder wall. Prior radiotherapy however let to changes which could be falsly interpreted as indicators of malignant infiltration. In order to enhance the accuracy of cytologic evaluation of the urinary sediment in this clinical setting it is essential that the cytologist must be informed about prior radiation therapy.

Of 269 patients with bladder neoplasms treated during a 20-year period 47 had associated vesicoureteral reflux. All 47 patients were followed for 3 years or more, or until death. Upper urinary tract transitional cell cancer developed in 3, each of whom had recurrent bladder cancer. Among the 222 patients who had vesical cancer without reflux transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter developed in only 1, 11 years after transurethral resection for a bladder tumor. The incidences of upper tract transitional cell cancer in patients with and without vesicoureteral reflux were 6.4 and 0.44 per cent,

Clear cell adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder is a very rare neoplasm. This mullerian tumor frequently arises from ovarian endometriosis. We present a case of clear cell adenocarcinoma arising from endometriosis in the bladder; this is only the third such case report in the English language literature. Endometriosis involves the bladder in only approximately 1% of patients with this disease. The patient is a 40 year-old woman who has a history of adenocarcinoma arising from endometrial tissue in the bladder. Her tumor invaded the rectum, necessitating an anterior resection of the rectum as
