PURPOSE: To report findings of unusual multifocal pigmented lesions in a single patient with sector uveal melanocytosis.
METHODS: Retrospective case report of an otherwise healthy 64-year-old man with unusual uveal pigmentation. Complete ocular examination, including slit-lamp biomicroscopy, ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound biomicroscopy, was performed.

The distribution of elastic fibers and elastin mRNA was studied in the uvea of 19-day-old chick embryos by light and electron microscopy and in situ hybridization techniques using a 35S-labeled RNA probe. We present an unusual case of a patient who acquired a pansinusitis and orbital cellulitis with necrotizing features, subsequently developing scleritis, keratitis, and anterior uveitis. To date, there are no reported cases of the simultaneous involvement of these ocular structures from a pansinusitis. Twenty-eight patients were identified with large B-cell lymphoma of the uvea. Uveal involvement was iris (1 case), ciliary body (1 case), or choroidal in 14 cases. Panuveal involvement was observed in 12 cases. The clinical presentation could be categorized into uveitis (8), intraocular mass (9), neovascular glaucoma (4), and vascular disorders (4). We describe 3 cases of unilateral congenital ectropion uveae associated with ptosis and glaucoma in a syndrome with no systemic associations. Early detection of glaucoma and timely surgical intervention is required to preserve productive vision in such patients. In our case series, trabeculectomy with mitomycin C was effective in controlling glaucoma progression over a follow-up period of 5-15 years.

A study was made of the distribution of Substance P-immunoreactive fibers in chick cornea and uvea in whole mount preparation, using the indirect immunofluorescence technique. The development of these fibers during embryogenesis was also investigated. SP-fibers were present in all chick eye structures, in the various prenatal and postnatal stages examined. Their distribution was comparable with that observed by other workers in mammals. Transformation of the iris musculature from smooth to striated, during development, is not accompanied by significant changes in SP-ergic innervation.
