Intelligent routing for human activity recognition in wireless body area networks.

Human activity recognition (HAR), driven by machine learning techniques, offer the detection of diverse activities such as walking, running, and more. Considering the dynamic nature, limited energy and mobility of wireless body area networks (WBANs), HAR can play a significant role in enhancing WBANs performance. This paper genuinely bridges HAR's activity recognition capability using machine learning to develop a novel WBAN routing decisions adoptively. Being optimum in power consumption, we employed Random Forest classification algorithm for activity recognition. The resulted system holds gr

A rhombus-keyhole shaped circularly polarized dual-band implantable antenna with low SAR compliance.

A compact dual-resonance implantable antenna with circular polarization (CP) has been proposed in this paper for bio telemetry applications. The antenna, with dimensions of 9 × 9 × 1.27 mm3, is designed using a reversed L-shaped patch, dual key-hole shaped structures and a central rhombus-shaped element. A shoring pin is employed to achieve dual-band resonance, while structural modification enables circular polarization. The proposed antenna resonates at 1.4 GHz (WMTS band) and 2.45 GHz (ISM band). The antenna is fabricated and measured using minced pork meat and saline solution. The measureme

Coplanar Waveguide Fed Ultra-Wide-Band Monopole Antenna for Radio Frequency Energy Harvesting Applications.

The RFEH based on wireless charging is a promising technology for powering low-energy Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices; however, its efficiency is still limited by antenna design and impedance matching. In this work, a printed antenna suitable for RFEH is developed with a CPW feed. The antenna is composed of a semicircular fractal curve, similar to a fig leaf tree radiating patch, with rectangular notches to be fabricated on an FR4 low-cost substrate. It has an operational bandwidth of 700 MHz to 3 GHz, covering key communication bands, including GSM, WLAN, ISM, and Wi-Fi applications. Numeric

Flexible antenna design is described in this study, prototyping of a flexible graphene-based antenna for data transmission from wearable arm and abdomen imaging equipment over a 5G network. The antenna uses an 18-μm-thick graphene thin sheet for the conductive and ground radiating patch. The proposed design operates in the from 25.2-40.2 GHz frequency band and it based on the radiation patch fractal structure which allowed for adequate antenna flexibility. The invention is appropriate for wearable applications because the patch was constructed on a flexible polyamide substrate that was 1.575 m

Design of a Compact Circularly Polarized Implantable Antenna for Capsule Endoscopy Systems.

This research proposes a miniature circular polarization antenna used in a wireless capsule endoscopy system at 2.45 GHz for industrial, scientific, and medical bands. We propose a method of cutting a chamfer rectangular slot on a circular radiation patch and introducing a curved radiation structure into the centerline position of the chamfer rectangular slot, while a short-circuit probe is added to achieve miniaturization. Therefore, we significantly reduced the size of the antenna and made it exhibit circularly polarized radiation characteristics. A cross-slot is cut in the GND to enable the

Battery-Free, Wireless, Cuff-Type, Multimodal Physical Sensor for Continuous Temperature and Strain Monitoring of Nerve.

Peripheral nerve injuries cause various disabilities related to loss of motor and sensory functions. The treatment of these injuries typically requires surgical operations for improving functional recovery of the nerve. However, capabilities for continuous nerve monitoring remain a challenge. Herein, a battery-free, wireless, cuff-type, implantable, multimodal physical sensing platform for continuous in vivo monitoring of temperature and strain from the injured nerve is introduced. The thin, soft temperature, and strain sensors wrapped around the nerve exhibit good sensitivity, excellent stabi

Rapid and on-site wireless immunoassay of respiratory virus aerosols via hydrogel-modulated resonators.

Rapid and accurate detection of respiratory virus aerosols is highlighted for virus surveillance and infection control. Here, we report a wireless immunoassay technology for fast (within 10 min), on-site (wireless and battery-free), and sensitive (limit of detection down to fg/L) detection of virus antigens in aerosols. The wireless immunoassay leverages the immuno-responsive hydrogel-modulated radio frequency resonant sensor to capture and amplify the recognition of virus antigen, and flexible readout network to transduce the immuno bindings into electrical signals. The wireless immunoassay a

Scalable networks of multimodal haptic arrays for plantar sensory substitution.

Feet provide essential sensory input, supporting body awareness for safe movement. The impairment of plantar sensation, arising in conditions such as stroke and spinal cord injury, has a major impact on mobility, balance, and quality of life. Substituting the sensation of plantar pressure to another area on the body with intact somatosensory abilities requires capabilities for fast, programmable delivery of haptic feedback. Here, we introduce a wireless network of skin-conformable, multimodal haptic arrays that deliver high-density thermal and vibrotactile patterns anywhere on the body. Centra

Parameter optimization of IPT systems based on genetic algorithms.

Output power and transmission efficiency are key performance indicators for Wireless Power Transfer (WPT). Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) systems feature numerous resonant parameters that are interrelated, making it challenging to determine specific component values during system design. This paper investigates an S-P type IPT system and establishes an equivalent circuit model for the mutual inductance of the contactless transformers. The influence characteristics of coupling coefficient k, resonant angular frequency ω, and equivalent load resistance Re on circuit output power and transmission

Deep Learning-Based GNN-Attention Framework for Near-Field Channel Modeling and Beamforming in Sixth-Generation Wireless Systems: A Simulation Study.

The emergence of sixth-generation (6G) networks has driven the development of Extremely Large Intelligent Metasurfaces (XL-IMS) to deliver ultra-high speeds and high spectral efficiency. Nevertheless, classical far-field channels are not applicable to near-field transmission due to spherical-wave propagation and the lack of spatial stationarity, leading to reduced beamforming performance and increased computational complexity. Therefore, the goal of this research is to develop a method for near-field channel modeling and beamforming optimization based on physics-driven deep learning. The propo

Classification of daily activities using a wireless instrumented insole (WalkinSense) in a semi free-living setting.

BACKGROUND: Accurate monitoring of activities of daily living (ADLs) in real‑world environments is essential for preventive care and rehabilitation, yet it remains difficult to achieve outside controlled laboratory settings. Instrumented insoles provide a promising, unobtrusive solution for continuous monitoring. However, the use of multimodal systems integrating plantar pressure and inertial data in naturalistic conditions and larger cohorts is still limited. This study therefore aims to evaluate the accuracy of a wireless instrumented insole (WalkinSense) that fuses pressure and inertial sen

Pain-Free and Wireless Luminescent Microneedle Sensor Array for In Situ Monitoring Tissue Oxygenation Status in Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is a severe complication of diabetes, progressing insidiously at early stages but eventually leading to amputation. Therefore, to effectively bring DFUs under control, early diagnosis is crucial. Recent researches have shown that DFUs progression correlates with tissue oxygenation. This fresh insight, along with lastest development of luminescent microneedles, leads to develop a painless and wireless microneedles sensor array, which can be conveniently used at home to measure tissue oxygenation with minimal invasiveness. The experiment shows that the microneedles ar

Circularly polarized differential intra-oral antenna design validation and characterization for tongue drive system.

Assistive devices are becoming increasingly popular for physically disabled persons suffering tetraplegia and spinal cord injuries. Intraoral tongue drive system (iTDS) is one of the most feasible and non-invasive assistive technology (AT), which utilises the transferring and inferring of user intentions through different tongue gestures. Wireless transferring is of prime importance and requires a suitable design of the intra-oral antenna. In this paper, a compact circularly polarized differential intra-oral antenna is designed, and its performance is analysed within heterogeneous multilayer m

Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields from Parallel Wireless Power Transfer Systems.

The scenario of multiple wireless power transfer (WPT) systems working closely, synchronously or asynchronously with phase difference often occurs in power supply for household appliances and electric vehicles in parking lots. Magnetic field leakage from the WPT systems is also varied due to unpredictable asynchronous working conditions. In this study, the magnetic field leakage from parallel WPT systems working with phase difference is predicted, and the induced electric field and specific absorption rate (SAR) in a human body standing in the vicinity are also evaluated. Computational results

Exacerbation of demyelinating syndrome after exposure to wireless modem with public hotspot.

In August 2003, 48-year-old JS of Colorado, USA, a fitness therapist and sports nutritionist, contracted neuroinvasive West Nile virus which left her with disabilities due to spinal axonal damage. In August 2014, she suddenly developed symptoms very much like her acute West Nile infection 11 years ago, including focal seizures, ataxia, vertigo and headaches. Her blood count looked normal so there was no obvious infection. What struck her as odd was that when she left her apartment for any length of time, the symptoms stopped. She found out that a new type of wireless modem, enabled for both per
