Overextended Messengers: Insights Into the Government Public Health Communications Workforce From the 2024 PH WINS.

Amid escalating public health challenges, the communications workforce plays a vital but under-resourced role in government public health. Using 2024 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey data, we provide the first national profile of this workforce (N = 48 518). The majority identify as female (83%), white (65%), and are relatively new to the workforce, with 73% having held their position for 5 years or less. While nearly half (49%) report spending some time working in Communications/Public Information and 73% in Health Education, only 11% and 8%, respectively, identify these as

Policy to practice: Social accountability in medical school admissions-A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Medical schools worldwide are integrating social accountability into admissions to address health inequities, improve workforce distribution and enhance population health outcomes. While foundational frameworks exist, implementation outcomes of specific admissions policies remain underexplored. This scoping review maps how social mission mandates are operationalized within medical school admissions and examines reported impacts on applicant diversity, geographic representation and workforce alignment. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review using the Joanna Briggs Institute and Ark

Oregon's Emerging Psilocybin Services Workforce: A Survey of the First Legal Psilocybin Facilitators and Their Training Programs.

New legal frameworks for supervised psychedelic services are emerging, with Oregon and Colorado implementing programs to train and license psilocybin facilitators. This study describes Oregon's early psilocybin facilitator workforce and assesses state-approved training programs. The Open Psychedelic Evaluation Nexus (OPEN) reviewed Oregon Health Authority-approved training programs and surveyed facilitators who had completed or were enrolled in these programs between July and November 2023. Addressing Gaps in Public Health Workforce Data: The Inclusion of US Territories and Freely Associated States in the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey 2024.

US territories and freely associated states (T/FAS) deliver critical public health services to approximately 3.7 million people but have historically been excluded from national public health workforce assessments. Structural differences, such as smaller workforces, wide geographic distribution, and unique governance, have made it challenging to include T/FAS in public health workforce data systems. In 2025, the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey expanded to include the 8 T/FAS in the Islands Pilot. Between February 2025 and May 2025, survey invitations were sent to 8913 staff,

Diversity in Surgery: Ethnic, Gender, and LGBTQ+ Representations Among United Kingdom Surgical Residents and Consultants.

BACKGROUND: Diversity within the surgical workforce is not just a matter of equity, but a determinant of quality in patient care. Studies consistently show that diverse healthcare teams achieve better outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, and improved team functioning. By asking users of the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) to complete a survey on demographic characteristics we have been able to report diversity amongst surgical trainees and consultant trainers in the UK and Republic of Ireland for the first time. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of anony

Guide to Understanding and Supporting International Medical Graduates in Hematology/Oncology by the ASCO International Medical Graduates Community of Practice.

PURPOSE: International medical graduates (IMGs) are an essential component of the oncology workforce in the United States, comprising a third of all practicing oncologists and almost half of hematology/oncology fellows. In this article, we discuss the contributions of IMGs in the US oncology workforce, review unique challenges faced by IMGs, and propose potential solutions to overcome these challenges. Addressing anti-black racism - advancing equity and empowering black registered practical nurses: A multiple method research design.

BACKGROUND: Nurses form the backbone of the Canadian healthcare system, with the largest workforce representation across various care settings (Health Canada, 2024). The purpose of this narrative review is to critically examine from the literature the structural and systemic challenges experienced by Black Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), within the broader context of the ongoing national nursing crisis. While RPNs form a significant portion of the nursing workforce, Black RPNs encounter unique and compounding barriers due to anti-Black racism (ABR) and systemic inequities. RPNs, who are in

Gender Diversity Among Surgeons on US ACPA-Approved Cleft and Craniofacial Teams.

BACKGROUND: Gender diversity among surgeons, particularly within subspecialties, is limited compared with other medical professions. Although diverse patient care teams have been shown to improve patient trust, communication, and overall care, female representation among multidisciplinary teams and in leadership roles remains low. This study aims to evaluate gender diversity among surgeons on American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA)-approved cleft and craniofacial teams in the United States, with emphasis on subspecialty representation and leadership roles. Building Collective Efficacy to Support Public Health Workforce Development.

CONTEXT: Leaders in public health have made great advances in workforce development over the past 30 years, while shifting from an emphasis based in training on individual, technical skills to a more holistic development approach, which boosts crosscutting skills. Efforts to increase public health workforce capabilities remain focused on workers as individuals, rather than the workforce as a collective unit. PROGRAM: Research has shown that a strategic adult learning approach can improve both individual capabilities and the collective performance of the workforce, which can be explained using

Strategies to Increase the Spanish-Speaking Workforce in Orthopaedic Surgery within the United States.

Language-concordant care improves patient satisfaction. Given the increase in Spanish-speaking persons requiring orthopaedic care in the United States, it is essential to increase the Spanish-speaking workforce in orthopaedic surgery. We have proposed strategies to improve the proportion of Spanish-speaking orthopaedic surgeons in the U.S. through early exposure to orthopaedic surgery, by creating collaborative advancement and mentorship opportunities, by endorsing Spanish-language immersion opportunities, and by increasing workforce diversity awareness. Furthermore, we have suggested a strate…

"Women's work": Gender and the physician workforce.

Historically, the physician professional identity and the organizational structure of Western medicine have been defined by masculine norms such as authority and assertiveness. The past five decades have seen a rapid shift in the demographics of attendees as medical schools, with equal numbers of women and men matriculants for nearly twenty years. Gender as a social, cultural, and structural variable continues to influence the physician workforce. The entry of women into medicine, has had far reaching effects on the expectations of patients, the interactions of physicians with other members of

Analysis of the Caribbean Neurosurgery Workforce: Scope of Practice, Challenges, and Ways Forward.

BACKGROUND: The neurosurgical workforce in the Caribbean and surrounding countries is largely unknown due to the diversity in cultural, linguistic, political, financial disparities, and colonial history between the countries.
