Micro-oxygenation (Mox) is a common technique used to stabilize color and reduce harsh astringency in red wines. Ninety-six strains of apiculate wine yeasts were studied for their ability to produce glycerol, acetaldehyde, ethyl acetate, sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide in synthetic medium. A study of 552 female patients was undertaken to determine the frequency of yeast infections in women attending a V.D. clinic. OBJECTIVES: This narrative review aims to aggregate all reports of nosocomial transmission of rare yeast species, to provide an overview of global trends, causative species, clinical characteristics and preventive measures.
