Drug discovery and development for neglected diseases: the DNDi model.

New models of drug discovery have been developed to overcome the lack of modern and effective drugs for neglected diseases such as human African trypanosomiasis (HAT; sleeping sickness), leishmaniasis, and Chagas disease, which have no financial viability for the pharmaceutical industry. With the purpose of combining the skills and research capacity in academia, pharmaceutical industry, and contract researchers, public-private partnerships or product development partnerships aim to create focused research consortia that address all aspects of drug discovery and development. These consortia not…

Future anxiety and academic burnout among university students: a short-term three-wave longitudinal conditional process study.

BACKGROUND: Future anxiety may be relevant to academic burnout among university students, but its short-term temporally ordered association with burnout and the cognitive processes involved remain unclear. This study tested whether brooding rumination mediated this association and whether physical activity habit automaticity moderated the first stage. METHODS: A short-term three-wave longitudinal questionnaire survey was conducted among 1271 university students recruited from five provinces in China. Future anxiety and physical activity habit automaticity were measured at Time 1, brooding rum

A mixed methods evaluation of a six-year primary care community safety net-academic partnership model.

To expand the tripartite mission to advance health equity, academic medical centers (AMCs) need to look outside their walls. In 2018, Stanford's primary care division launched the Community Partnership Program (CPP) between their AMC and local safety-net community health centers (CHCs) to support the goals of meaningful community engagement and addressing local clinic capacity needs. The CPP embeds Stanford physician faculty in local CHCs through service agreements. This study aimed to characterize the experiences of CHC leaders and faculty involved in the CPP to better understand barriers and

When cognitive offloading becomes dependence: how AI dependence mediates the pathway from academic stress to burnout and anxiety.

Although generative AI tools are increasingly used in college students' academic activities, their role in stress-related maladaptive coping remains unclear. This study focuses specifically on maladaptive AI dependence as a potential mediator linking academic stress to academic burnout and anxiety. A total of 1,623 college students completed an online survey using the Academic Stress Scale, the AI Dependence Scale, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Academic Burnout Scale, and the GAD-7. PROCESS Model 6 was used to examine direct, indirect, and sequential mediation effects separately for aca

Perceived factors associated with self-reported AI-assisted academic cheating among undergraduate students: Evidence from ethical ambiguity, technological affordances, institutional gaps, academic pressure, and peer comparison.

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has made academic cheating in higher education increasingly complex and difficult to regulate. Using a cross-sectional self-report survey of 863 undergraduate students at a university of science and technology in Vietnam, this study examined the latent structure of students' perceptions of factors associated with AI-assisted academic cheating and the associations of the resulting constructs with self-reported cheating behaviors. Data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and covariance-bas

Disability and sexual harassment and coercion in higher education in Ghana: the moderating role of financial support.

INTRODUCTION: Higher education students with disabilities are susceptible to all forms of violence and have an increased risk of sexual harassment and coercion (SHC). SHC victims face a range of structural and social marginalizations, including physical accessibility challenges, communication barriers, and social isolation, which truncate their ability to seek help or assert boundaries. In Ghana, where about 8% (2,098,138) of the population live with disabilities, SHC and how it varies across disability types and differential socioeconomic backgrounds have received limited scholarly attention.

Learnings from assistive technology use in an online, higher education environment.

PURPOSE: The demand and popularity of online higher education programmes has increased dramatically, with a sectoral shift to funding, resourcing and increasing options for remote study. Thus, it is important to understand disabled students' experiences in an online learning environment and how they navigate their assistive technology (AT) use. The pivot to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges of AT use and identify best practices for disabled students who are studying remotely. The aim of this paper is to present key

Participation in a medical academic Olympiad is associated with high intrinsic motivation and positive perceptions of academic outcomes.

Academic and scientific Olympiads have been used as educational tools since the late nineteenth century, fostering students' interest, creativity, and critical thinking. However, their application in medical education remains limited. In this context, Brazilian medical students created the Medical Olympiad (OMED), a nationwide, student-led initiative designed to promote active and collaborative learning, foster clinical reasoning, and enhance academic engagement. Despite the long-standing use of Olympiads in basic education, their educational impact in medical school has been minimally investi
