The emerging pathogen Candida auris is isolated mostly from hospitalized patients and often shows multidrug resistance. We report on the isolation of this yeast in Austria from an outpatient's auditory canal. The isolate showed good susceptibility against antifungals except for echinocandins; the patient was treated successfully with topical administration of nystatin.

A 30-year-old man had suffered from persistent ulceration within an area of necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum for 13 months. The ulcerating necrobiosis lipoidica was resistant to topical therapy and oral therapy with acetylsalicylic acid. Over a period of 6 years, 23 patients (4 males and 19 females: mean age 56 years) who presented dry eyes developed 33 sterile corneal ulcers. Treatment included occlusion of the eyes or bandage soft contact lenses, prophylactic topical administration of antibiotics, punctal occlusions and currently available tear substitutes.
