Research progress on the improvement of cardiovascular diseases through the autonomic nervous system regulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway.

Cardiovascular disease stands as a leading global cause of mortality. Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain-like Receptor Protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is widely acknowledged as pivotal factor in specific cardiovascular disease progression, such as myocardial infarction, heart failure. Recent investigations underscore a close interconnection between autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction and cardiac inflammation. It has been substantiated that sympathetic nervous system activation and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) assumes critical roles withinNLRP3 inflammasome pathway regulation, the…

More efficient adaptation of cardiovascular response to repeated restraint in spontaneously hypertensive rats: the role of autonomic nervous system.

We hypothesized that sympathetic hyperactivity and parasympathetic insuficiency in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) underlie their exaggerated cardiovascular response to acute stress and impaired adaptation to repeated restraint stress exposure compared to Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY). Cardiovascular responses to single (120 min) or repeated (daily 120 min for 1 week) restraint were measured by radiotelemetry and autonomic balance was evaluated by power spectral analysis of systolic blood pressure variability (SBPV) and heart rate variability (HRV). Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) was measured by

Neonatal Skin-to-Skin Contact: Implications for Learning and Autonomic Nervous System Function in Infants With Congenital Heart Disease.

BACKGROUND: Infants with complex congenital heart disease (CCHD) often develop neurodevelopmental disabilities. Cognitive abilities are associated with vagally mediated autonomic function. Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) interventions enhance infant neurodevelopment and autonomic function in other high-risk populations. AIM: To examine the effects of a neonatal SSC intervention on learning and autonomic function in 3-month-old infants: infants with CCHD who received neonatal SSC ( n = 10), typically developing (TD) infants ( n = 16), and infants with CCHD without SSC ( n = 10). METHODS: This seco

Relation Between Asymmetry of Prefrontal Activity and Autonomic Nervous System in Post-stroke Patients with a Disorder of Consciousness.

Early mobilization and rehabilitation of stroke patients can improve functional recovery. However, effects of mobilization on the responses of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and emotions in post-stroke patients are not yet clear, particularly in patients with disorders of consciousness. We evaluated the effects of standing load on the ANS and emotions of post-stroke patients (n = 8, 70.8 ± 11.8 years) with a disorder of consciousness by measuring the prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity, which plays important roles in regulation of the ANS and emotions. Employing near infrared spectroscopy (NI…

Early life adversities and adolescent antisocial behavior: The role of cardiac autonomic nervous system reactivity in the TRAILS study.

In the current study, the role of pre-ejection period (PEP) and respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) was studied in the association between prior adversities and antisocial behavior in adolescence. PEP and RSA task reactivity and recovery to a public speaking task were assessed in adolescents from a longitudinal population-based study (N=624, Mage=16.14 years, 49.2% boys). Perinatal adversities were unrelated to antisocial behavior, but experiencing more stressful adversities between age 0 and 15 was associated with antisocial behavior at age 16 in boys with blunted PEP reactivity and smaller PE

Adverse effects of cigarette and noncigarette smoke exposure on the autonomic nervous system: mechanisms and implications for cardiovascular risk.

This review summarizes the detrimental effects of cigarette and noncigarette emission exposure on autonomic function, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of acute and chronic modulation of the sympathetic nervous system. We propose that the nicotine and fine particulate matter in tobacco smoke lead to increased sympathetic nerve activity, which becomes persistent via a positive feedback loop between sympathetic nerve activity and reactive oxidative species. Furthermore, we propose that baroreflex suppression of sympathetic activation is attenuated in habitual smokers; that is, the baror

[Autonomic nervous system estimation by heart rate variability analysis in experimental short and long-lasting bladder outlet obstruction model].

INTRODUCTION: Benign prostatic hyperplasia; BPH is associated with the symptoms of the bladder overactivity. This disease can be comparatively easly induced using an animal model of the partial bladder outlet obstruction; PBOO. The pathophysiological description of BPH is still incomplete, thus autonomic nervous system activity assessement in the course of PBOO seems to be important. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The experiment was carried out on 30 Wistar rats. 10 animals "sham" operated served as control group (group 1). Another 20 rats underwent the PBOO surgery. In all studied animals in urethane…

Dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system activity is responsible for gastric myoelectric disturbances in the irritable bowel syndrome patients.

The pathogenesis of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is still unsolved. Lately most attention has been focused on visceral hypersensitivity related to dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the ANS activity and gastric motility in constipation-predominant IBS patients using the heart rate variability (HRV) and gastric myoelectric activity (EGG) recording. 23 patients (45+/-13 yrs) matching Manning criteria and 30 healthy volunteers (47+/-5 yrs) participated in the study. EGG and HRV in fasted and fed subjects with fasted serum cate…

G(z alpha) deficient mice: enzyme levels in the autonomic nervous system, neuronal survival and effect of genetic background.

Our laboratory has generated a genetically mutant mouse in which the alpha subunit of the heterotrimeric GTP binding protein, G(z) has been made dysfunctional by homologous recombination to determine its in vivo function. These animals show a characteristic failure to thrive phenotype. G(z alpha) is expressed in a variety of nervous system tissues as well as in the adrenal medulla. We therefore examined the autonomic nervous system of the G(z alpha) deficient mouse by measuring the activity of tyrosine hydroxylase and choline acetyltransferase in the superior cervical ganglia, submaxillary gla…

Assessment of autonomic nervous system function in patients with Behçet' s disease by spectral analysis of heart rate variability.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the autonomic nervous system (ANS) function in patients with Behçet's disease by using power spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). The study population consisted of 71 patients with Behçet's disease, and 26 normal volunteers. HRV was measured by power spectral analysis in supine and standing position. In supine position, Behçet's patients had increased low frequency component in absolute (LF) and normalized units (LF nU) but had lower values of high frequency component in absolute (HF) and normalized units (HF nU) than the controls (P < 0.…

The Autonomic Nervous System Response Inventory (ANSRI): discrimination among migraine headache sufferers, muscle contraction headache sufferers, and normal controls.

Twenty-three migraine headache sufferers, sixteen muscle contraction headache sufferers, and thirteen no headache control subjects were selected to test the discriminant validity of the ANSRI. Significant Chi-Squares indicated reliable differences among the groups in ANSRI F scale scores under the Anger condition and in P scale scores based on the means of items across four emotions (All E). Discriminant analyses yielded 69% correct classifications for All E P scales and 58% correct classifications for Anger F scales. All E P scale analyses revealed that the Muscle Tension scale separated the

SGLT2 inhibitors in type 2 diabetes: a comprehensive review of their effects on the autonomic nervous system and cardiovascular health.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are antidiabetic drugs that help lower high blood sugar levels by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys. Although their primary function is to control blood sugar in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), growing evidence suggests they may also have additional benefits, particularly in reducing neurological and cardiovascular complications related to T2DM. This study explores the neuroprotective effects of SGLT2i, which appear to improve symptoms of peripheral neuropathy by enhancing nerve conduction for both sensory and motor function

Analysis of the adrenal gland is useful for evaluating pathology of the peripheral autonomic nervous system in lewy body disease.

Lewy body disease is defined as Lewy body-related neuronal degeneration involving the nigrostriatal system, limbic-neocortical system, and peripheral autonomic nervous system (PANS). We investigated whether the adrenal gland, which is evolutionarily related to sympathetic ganglia and is routinely examined in general autopsy, could be used to assess pathology of the PANS in Lewy body disease. Brains, spinal cords, and adrenal glands from 783 consecutive autopsy cases from a general geriatric hospital were examined immunohistochemically with antiphosphorylated alpha-synuclein antibodies and rout…
