Necrotizing buccal and cervical fasciitis.

A bite wound led to necrotizing fasciitis in the temporal space, the lateral pharyngeal space and the carotid sheath, indicative of a Streptococcus and Bacteroides infection, and was successfully treated with repeated incisions, radical debridement and antibiotic therapy.

Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound irradiation ameliorates gut inflammation and neuroinflammation in mice with DSS-induced colitis.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a lifelong autoimmune disease associated with a high prevalence of mental disorders. An abnormal gut-brain axis p … thway. 16S rRNA sequencing showed that LIPUS irradiation significantly upregulated the abundance of Bacteroides and glutamate metabolism. Metabolic analysis revealed that the most significant metabolites between the DSS + LIPUS and DSS groups were mostly involved in alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism. The detection of neurotransmitters revealed that …

Comparison of microbial communities and the profile of sulfate-reducing bacteria in patients with ulcerative colitis and their association with bowel diseases: a pilot study.

Considerable evidence has accumulated regarding the molecular relationship between gut microbiota (GM) composition and the onset (clinical p … l, samples without cultivation from patients with moderate UC showed a high abundance of the genera Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium and Ruminococcus, but after SRB cultivation, the dominant genera were Bacteroides, Klebsiella and Bilophila. Study of the Gut Microbiome in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Gut dysbiosis may play a role in immune-mediated diseases, such as psoriasis. There is a growing interest in understanding micro … when looking for relative and especially differential abundances. Bacteroidaceae family (P = .02), Bacteroides genus (P=.02), and Bacteroides uniformis (P=.03) were more abundant in psoriatic arthritis patients on differential abundance, adjusted for each taxonomic level. However, the present study did not show significant differences in alpha or beta divers …

Saussurea involucrata oral liquid regulates gut microbiota and serum metabolism during alleviation of collagen-induced arthritis in rats.

Saussurea involucrata oral liquid (SIOL) can clinically relieve symptoms, such as joint pain and swelling, and morning stiffness, in patient … S rRNA sequencing results showed that SIOL increased the relative richness of the Lactobacillus and Bacteroides genus and decreased the relative richness of Romboutsia, Alloprevotella, Blautia, and Helicobacter genus. Serum nontargeted metabolomic results indicated that SIOL could regulate metabolites related to metabolic pathways, such as glycine, serine, th …

Gut microbiome in children with enthesitis-related arthritis in a developing country and the effect of probiotic administration.

In Asia, enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) is the most frequent category of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. ERA has a strong association with human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 and subclinical gut inflammation. In an HLA-B27 transgenic rat model, the presence of Bacteroides bacteria in the gut appears to cause spondyloarthropathy (SpA). Thus, we studied gut microbiota in children with ERA. Stool specimens from 33 patients with ERA and 14 age-matched healthy controls were studied; none had any gastrointestinal symptom, or had received a drug known to affect gut motility or microbiota in the prec…

An anaerobic pathogen rewires host metabolism to fuel oxidative growth in the inflamed gut.

To colonize their host and cause disease, enteric pathogens must deploy their virulence factors to establish distinct nutrient niches. How anaerobic pathogens construct nutrient niches in the densely populated large intestine remains poorly understood. Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis (ETBF) is a classically anaerobic bacterium implicated in inflammation-associated diseases, including colitis and colorectal cancer. Here, we show that ETBF uses its virulence factor, Bacteroides fragilis toxin (BFT), to generate and adapt to a localized oxidative niche that supports gut colonization. BFT man…

Systematic approach for revealing biomarkers of diarrheal microbiome of yaks through metagenomics sequencings.

Yaks are important food ruminants on the Plateau, but the presence of a diarrhea disease is seriously threatening the yak sector. To detect bacterial biomarkers of diarrhea in this animal, metagenomics sequencing of fecal samples from diarrhea (group D) and normal (group H) yaks was performed. The results showed 61,963,936,432 and 63,972,070 354 clean samples in the diarrheal and normal yaks, respectively. Genotyping in group D (20,000) was statistically lower than that in group H (80,000) (p < 0.05). Firmicutes and bacteroides levels in diarrheal yaks (1.03) were lower than in normal animals.…

[Lactose--a potential dietary fiber. The regulation of its microecologic effect in the intestinal tract. 3. Dietary fiber actions of lactose due to microbial activity].

The activity of the mucosal beta-galactosidase of caecum and colon is low in both germfree and conventional rats. beta-Galactosidase activity occurs also in the chymus of germfree rats. It increases after monoassociation and is higher in conventional than in germfree animals. Lactose entering caecum and colon acts like dietary fibre and is hydrolysed mainly by the intestinal flora. Aerobe lactobacilli and bacteroides predominate in the microflora of rat caecum and colon. A lactose-containing diet increases the total number of germs and stimulates the growth of bifidobacteria. After special die…

Ten adult patients with severe Bacteroides infections were treated with 0.9 approximately 1.8 g/day of parenteral or oral clindamycin, and a child was treated with 0.3 g/day orally. Remarkable responses and cures were obtained in all the patients, who had no underlying diseases and pure anaerobic infections; a case of sepsis, two cases of liver abscess, a case of subcutaneous abscess and a case of spinal epidural abscess. The other six patients who had ultimately fatal underlying diseases or mixed infections did not respond well to the combination of clindamycin and the other antibiotics thera…

Mammalian-like type II glutaminyl cyclases in Porphyromonas gingivalis and other oral pathogenic bacteria as targets for treatment of periodontitis.

The development of a targeted therapy would significantly improve the treatment of periodontitis and its associated diseases including Alzheimer's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. Glutaminyl cyclases (QCs) from the oral pathogens Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Prevotella intermedia represent attractive target enzymes for small-molecule inhibitor development, as their action is likely to stabilize essential periplasmic and outer membrane proteins by N-terminal pyroglutamination. In contrast to other microbial QCs that utilize the so-called type I
