The synthesis of γ-chiral borylalkanes through copper-catalyzed enantioselective SN2'-reduction of γ,γ-disubstituted allylic substrates and subsequent hydroboration was reported. A copper-DTBM-Segphos catalyst produced a range of γ-chiral alkylboronates from easily accessible allylic acetate or benzoate with high enantioselectivities up to 99% ee. Furthermore, selective organic transformations of the resulting γ-chiral alkylboronates generated the corresponding γ-chiral alcohol, arene and amine compounds.

Prospective observation in a neonate with guanidinoacetate methyltransferase deficiency (GAMT-D), a severe neurometabolic disorder, revealed increased guanidinoacetate levels at birth. After 14-month treatment with creatine, high-dose ornithine, benzoate, and an arginine-restricted diet, the patient's development is normal and she does not present any symptoms of GAMT-D. The authors' observation indicates that early detection of GAMT-D is possible in the neonatal period, and presymptomatic treatment may prevent its manifestation.

The role played by dietary chemical factors in the pathogenesis of chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) was assessed in seventy-six patients by challenge Stable remission was first established by using an empirically established 'exclusion diet'. A diet modified to exclude those chemicals giving a positive response to challlenge was demonstrated to be of therapeutic value for time periods of up to 18 months. Azadirachtin, a natural sesquiterpenoid compound, exhibits broad-spectrum insecticidal activity, yet its mechanism of action remains incompletely understood. BACKGROUND: Scabies is a common parasitic infestation and is very difficult to eradicate from institutions. Ivermectin is used extensively thanks to its efficacy and ease of use through oral administration; it was approved for the treatment of scabies in humans in 2001 in France. Most of the adverse effects noted with this drug have been seen during treatment of onchocerciasis and other filarial disease, but they are rare in the treatment of scabies.
