Differences in sexual identity, risk practices, and sex partners between bisexual men and other men among a low-income drug-using sample.

Men who have sex with men and women (MSMW) represent an important target population for understanding the spread of HIV because of the inherent bridging aspect of their sexual behavior. Despite their potential to spread HIV between gender groups, relatively little recent data have been reported about this population as a subgroup distinct from men who have sex with men only. This paper analyzes data from the Chicago site of Sexual Acquisition and Transmission of HIV Cooperative Agreement Program to characterize 343 MSMW in terms of their demographics, drug use, sexual risk behavior, sexual ide

Exploring the internet's role in sexual compulsivity and out of control sexual thoughts/behaviour: a qualitative study of gay and bisexual men in New York City.

Sexual compulsivity and the internet have been investigated separately among gay and bisexual men for their connection to sexual risk behaviour, yet little research has addressed the intersection. This analysis explored qualitative interview data from 111 gay and bisexual men experiencing out of control sexual thoughts and/or behaviours, about the role of the internet in their lives. For some it facilitated their problematic sexual thoughts and behaviours and, to some extent, was a distraction from important facets of their lives. Equally, men identified strategies to limit their internet use

The acceptability and feasibility of the Positive Reinforcement Opportunity Project, a community-based contingency management methamphetamine treatment program for gay and bisexual men in San Francisco.

The Positive Reinforcement Opportunity Project (PROP) was a pilot program developed to build on the efficacy of contingency management (CM) using positive reinforcement to address the treatment needs of gay and bisexual men currently using crystal methamphetamines (meth). It was hypothesized that a version of CM could be implemented in San Francisco that was less costly than traditional treatment methods and reached gay and other MSM using meth who also engaged in high-risk sexual activity. Of the 178 men who participated in PROPfrom December 2003 to December 2005, many self-reported behaviors

High willingness to receive a vaccine for gonorrhoea prevention among gay, bisexual, queer, and other sexuality diverse men, and non-binary people in Australia.

Gonorrhoea incidence and antimicrobial resistance are increasing among gay, bisexual, queer, and other sexuality diverse men, and non-binary (GBQ+) people. Observational studies suggested that 4CMenB vaccine (Bexsero®) may provide partial protection against gonorrhoea, but recent randomised trials found no clear evidence of protection. We analysed willingness to receive 4CMenB for gonorrhoea prevention in a 2025 Australian cross-sectional survey of GBQ+ individuals aged ≥16 years. Multivariable logistic regression examined associated factors. Among 2138 participants (median age 39 years), 89.2

Mental Health Disparities Across Sexual Role Identities (Top, Bottom, Versatile, Side) in Gay and Bisexual Men: A Three-Level Meta-Analysis.

Sexual role identity (SRI; e.g. Top, Bottom, Versatile, Side/Others) is a central feature of gay and bisexual men's sexual self-definition and a potential source of intra-minority stress such as bottom-shaming, yet its mental health correlates remain unclear and empirical findings are mixed. This preregistered three-level meta-analysis synthesized 393 effect sizes from 41 studies (N = 27,819) on men with a history of same-sex behavior, published in Chinese and English databases up to January 2025. All effect sizes were converted to Cohen's d and modeled using three-level random-effects models.

Touch-Based Partner Yoga for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men in a Community Wellness Setting: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Program Evaluation of "The Studio".

BACKGROUND: Leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) is a well-established contributor to physical, psychological, and social well-being worldwide. Human touch also plays a vital role in life course health, yet opportunities for safe, consensual touch are often limited, particularly in LTPA settings. For gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (GBTQ) men, barriers to affirming LTPA spaces can make it particularly difficult to access such benefits. In response, community-based approaches that integrate touch are needed, alongside systematic evaluations of such strategies. "The Studio" (pseudonym), a

State racial and LGBTQ+ equality: Moderators of prospective suicide risk pathways among young ethnoracially minoritized lesbian and bisexual women and nonbinary individuals.

Ethnoracially minoritized LGBTQ+ young people demonstrate greater suicide risk than their non-Hispanic White peers, yet limited research exists examining state equality protective factors that can reduce risk, especially among lesbian and bisexual women/nonbinary individuals assigned female at birth (LBWNBI). Guided by a strengths-based approach and integrated theoretical model, we used an observed variable path analysis to examine moderating effects of state racial and LGBTQ+ equality, and interactions between these factors and individual- and interpersonal/community-level protective factors,

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Sexual Risk Behaviors, Suicidal Behaviors, and Self-Reported HIV Status among Gay and Bisexual Hispanic Men.

IntroductionCertain factors influence sexual risk behaviors among gay and bisexual Hispanic men (GBHM). Childhood sexual abuse, one component of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), influences sexual risk behaviors among GBHM. Little is known about the association between ACEs, sexual risk behaviors and suicidal behaviors among GBHM; therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of these variables.MethodsA cross-sectional design was used. Participants completed standardized measures of ACEs (ACEs Scale), sexual risk behaviors (Behavioral Risk Assessment Test [BRAT]), an

Substance use disorders and related hospitalizations and mortality among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men: A matched cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM), especially those living with HIV, may face greater substance-related harms. We compared substance use disorder (SUD) diagnoses, SUD-related hospitalizations, and all-cause mortality between GBM and men from the general population in Metro Vancouver. We also explored factors associated with these outcomes among GBM. METHODS: We linked 798 consenting participants from two GBM cohorts (Momentum and Engage) to administrative health data and matched them (1:5) on age, sex, and geography to 3990 HIV-negative British Columbia resi

Intimate Partner Violence Victimization and HIV PrEP Adherence Among Gay, Bisexual Men, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men in Ukraine.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant barrier to HIV prevention service utilization, yet little is known about its impact on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). This study examines the association between IPV victimization and PrEP adherence using data from an online survey of 937 current PrEP users in Ukraine, conducted in early 2022, a few days before Russia's invasion. Participants reported on six types of IPV experienced in the past six months, physical, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse as well as part

Psychological distress, stigma, and intersectional marginalization in lesbian and bisexual cisgender women in Chinese higher education: a thematic analysis guided by minority stress theory.

BACKGROUND: Lesbian and bisexual cisgender women in Chinese higher education institutions (HEIs) face compounded psychological distress at the intersection of gender- and sexuality-based stigma. Despite growing evidence of mental health disparities among LGBTQ populations in China, the mechanisms through which structural marginalization is internalized in educational settings remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: To identify how structural stigma is translated into internalized psychological harm among lesbian and bisexual cisgender women in Chinese HEIs, through specific, theoretically specif

Exploring the Impact of Bullying and Friendship on Mental Health Outcomes Among Transgender, Gender Diverse (TGD), and Cisgender Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual (LGB+) Youth.

Prejudice and discrimination put 2SLGBTQ+ youth at greater risk of developing poor mental health outcomes. Yet there is heterogeneity within this group, notably a greater risk for poor mental health outcomes in trans and gender diverse (TGD) youth. The goal of this study was to determine if the relationship between bullying and mental health outcomes, and the potential protective influence of peer friendship, differed between cisgender lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB+) and TGD youth. Using data from the 12-year youth survey from All Our Families cohort (n = 221), we analyzed youth's responses o

Understanding Intentions to Discuss Long-Acting Injectable Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis with Healthcare Providers Among Black and Hispanic Gay and Bisexual Men in Texas.

We examined factors influencing the intention of Black and Hispanic gay and bisexual men aged 18-34 years in Texas to discuss starting long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (LAI-PrEP) with healthcare providers. Participants were recruited through geosocial apps and community locations, completed online surveys measuring attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control (Theory of Planned Behavior), internalized homophobia, medical mistrust, HIV risk, and medical mistrust. Among the final sample (N = 190), 63.5% intended to discuss LAI-PrEP. Poisson regression models indicated

Smoking Behavior and Social Identity: Correlates of Phantom Smoking Among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Other Sexual and Gender Diverse Young Adults.

INTRODUCTION: LGBTQ+ populations and people who smoke face stigma. This may lead to distancing oneself from smoking-related stigma by becoming a phantom smoker (i.e., reporting smoking, but not identifying as a smoker). AIMS AND METHODS: We explored correlates of phantom cigarette smoking among LGBTQ+ young adults. Participants were US young adults (18-24 years) who identified as LGBTQ+, reported any past 30-day cigarette smoking, and had a valid response for smoker self-identification (unique N = 5545). We incorporated data from participants who completed one or more of the seven surveys fro

Individual and Environmental Predictors of Problematic Internet Use Among Young Adult Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Individuals: A 4-Year Follow-up Study.

OBJECTIVES: This 4-year follow-up study examined whether individual factors and environmental factors at baseline predict problematic internet use (PIU) four years later among young adult lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals and the mediating effect of PIU at baseline. METHOD: Data on PIU, demographics, sexual stigma (e.g., perceived sexual stigma from family members, internalized sexual stigma, and sexual microaggression), self-identity confusion (e.g., disturbed identity, unconsolidated identity, and lack of identity), affective symptoms (e.g., anxiety and depression), and family su

Drug Addiction in Gay and Bisexual Men Living with HIV Engaged in Sexualized Drug Use: Recent Drug Use, Polydrug and Depressive Symptoms as Predictors.

Evidence shows that engaging in sexualized drug use (SDU) can be associated with sexual health problems and poor mental health. However, the prevalence of drug-related problems associated with SDU remains unclear. Our study aimed to examine the prevalence and associated factors of drug-related problems and drug dependence in a sample of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men living with HIV (HIV + GBMSM). We included 101 HIV + GBMSM who had engaged in SDU in the last year. Participants completed an online survey featuring a validated questionnaire (the DUDIT test) to assess the ris

Associations between country of birth, migration status and engagement in HIV care among gay and bisexual men living with HIV in Australia, 2019-2022.

BACKGROUND: In the last decade, while HIV diagnoses have declined among Australian-born gay and bisexual men (GBM), they have declined much less among migrant GBM, with recently arrived GBM facing particular challenges, such as access to HIV treatment. This study assessed HIV care cascade (treatment) outcomes among GBM living with HIV in Australia by migration status. METHODS: Data were collected in national cross-sectional behavioural surveillance surveys during 2019-2022. HIV cascade outcomes were stratified by country of birth and length of residency in Australia, examining HIV clinical ap
