BACKGROUND: To describe an ultrastructure in the vitreous base (VB) and its micro-anatomical characteristics by multimodal imaging.
METHODS: Light and transmission electron microscopy of the VB were performed on specimens from post-trauma eyes and one healthy donor eye. Intra-operative fundus images associated with VB abnormalities were captured from 4 cases, including 2 retinal detachment (RD) with PVR eyes and 2 post-trauma eyes. BACKGROUND: The need for liver retransplantation (reLT) has increased proportionally with greater numbers of liver transplants (LTs) performed, use of marginal donors, degree of recipient preoperative liver dysfunction, and longer survival after LT. However, outcomes following reLT have been historically regarded as poor.

HISTORY AND ADMISSION FINDINGS: A 70-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with progressive chest pain. Coronary angiography demonstrated a significant stenosis of the left descending artery (LAD), which was treated by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and stent implantation. During this intervention, a coronary perforation occurred which was remedied immediately. Five days after the intervention, the patient complained about severe atypical chest and abdominal pain with nausea and vomitting, but no fever. Physical examination revealed an acute abdomen of uncertain origin.

PML nuclear bodies (PML-NBs) are dynamic interchromosomal macromolecular complexes implicated in epigenetic regulation as well as antiviral defense. During herpesvirus infection, PML-NBs induce epigenetic silencing of viral genomes, however, this defense is antagonized by viral regulatory proteins such as IE1 of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV).
