BACKGROUND: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head is a potential complication in patients with slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), radiographically occurring in 3-60%. This may lead to early hip fusion or hip arthroplasty. Free vascularized fibular grafting (FVFG) may provide a reasonable means to preserve the femoral head.

BACKGROUND: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is an important cause of hip pain and disability in pediatric patients. SCFE occurs bilaterally in 12% to 80% of cases, and the risk of contralateral SCFE is noted to be 2335 times higher than the index SCFE. BACKGROUND: In situ pinning, a low-risk treatment for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), leaves the slipped femoral head in place and may reduce range of motion (ROM) and cause impingement. It is unclear when a more complex surgery should be considered, because the relationships between severity, slip stability, remodeling, impingement, and ROM are unknown.

BACKGROUND: Poncet's disease is a rare syndrome characterized by articular impairment in a form of rare tuberculid. One of the theories of its cause involves an autoimmune response induced by the intravesical administration of the Calmette-Guerin Bacillus or the treatment of bladder carcinoma. Furthermore, there may be an appearance of oligoarticular or polyarticular arthritis, beginning 1-3 months after the start of therapy.
