The use of definitive irradiation in T1-T4N0 larynx cancer was reviewed in 236 patients at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Recurrence-free survival for all stages was 86% at five years. Ultimate recurrence-free survival, including successful surgical salvage, was 91% at five years. Exposure to synthetic drugs such as amphetamines may lead to significant consequences on the cardiovascular system. The prognosis of young adults with amphetamine-induced cardiomyopathy remains poor. This study assesses the effect of exposure correction on injury risk estimates for children, using Chicago-area survey data on age-specific exposure of children to seven products: amusement park rides, sleds, bunkbeds, skateboards, fireworks, toboggans, and air guns and rifles. Four patients with the crush syndrome due to prolonged limb compression were treated at Cook County Hospital, Chicago. Limb injury was caused when the obtunded patient fell asleep lying on the involved extremity. Prolonged limb compression may cause an acute compartment syndrome with ischemic muscle injury. To describe practice patterns of primary care physicians (PCPs) for the diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), we surveyed 556 PCPs in Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles (RR=52%). Only 62% reported ever seeing a patient like the one described in the vignette. In all, 16% were 'not at all' familiar with CP/CPPS, and 48% were 'not at all' familiar with the National Institutes of Health classification scheme. A retrospective review of 24 patients treated at the University of Chicago for pyogenic liver abscess from 1979 to 1989 was performed to determine if there is a changing etiology in pyogenic liver abscess and if percutaneous drainage is a reliable treatment alternative to open drainage.
