BACKGROUND: A patient presented with a corneal foreign body in his only eye. He was treated with prophylactic antibiotics and sent home, but deteriorated.
FINDINGS: He returned to the hospital 5 days later, and on slit-lamp examination, there was ciliary injection, corneal oedema and a 1 mm × 1 mm corneal abscess with mild anterior uveitis. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infections in children but Haemophilus is rarely involved. In our institution, only 3 children below the age of 15 years presented with UTI due to Haemophilus influenzae between January 2010 and October 2011. Trauma-induced hematomas of the limbs usually resorb without sequelae. In certain circumstances which are not fully understood, the hematoma may expand progressively, eventually leading to the development of a tumor-like mass in the soft tissues. We report the case of a chronic expanding hematoma observed in the right soleus muscle of a 75-year-old man. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 330 consecutive children (330 eyes) who were diagnosed with tear duct infections secondary to CNLDO and were admitted to the Children's Hospital of Fudan University from January 2013 to January 2020.
