BACKGROUND: Antibiotic misuse at the community level remains a critical contributor to antimicrobial resistance, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) play a pivotal role in primary healthcare delivery and antibiotic access, yet little is known about how they navigate prescribing decisions amid systemic limitations, social expectations and ethical pressures.
OBJECTIVE: This study explored CHEWs' perceptions, practices and experiences related to antibiotic prescribing and dispensing in resource-constrained settings, with particular attention

BACKGROUND: This paper documents the JC A-Connect: Jockey Club Autism Support Network community education program, which was a decade-long, territory-wide, and cross-sectoral initiative in Hong Kong, China. It was created in response to the rise of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in mainstream schools which posed challenges to support their adaptation. The program came timely as the number of autistic students doubled during the project implementation period.
PROGRAM: Unlike other initiatives that directly served the autistic individuals, this program delivered at the wider socia

BACKGROUND: Successful implementation of multifactorial fall prevention interventions (FPIs) is essential to reduce increasing fall rates in community-dwelling older adults. However, implementation often fails due to the complex context of the community involving multiple stakeholders within and across settings, sectors, and organizations. As there is a need for a better understanding of the occurring context-related challenges, the current scoping review purposes to identify what contextual determinants (i.e., barriers and facilitators) influence the implementation of FPIs in the community.

BACKGROUND: Up to 50% of women in areas of high socio-economic deprivation are at risk of developing depressive symptoms in pregnancy. Feeling well supported, can facilitate good mental health perinatally. A brief, innovative intervention to facilitate access to support and resources was developed and tested. This included one antenatal and one postnatal session, each with three evidence-based components: i) support from a non-professional peer to enable a woman to identify her needs; ii) information about local community services and signposting; and iii) development of a personalised If-Then

PURPOSE: To design, implement, and evaluate a church-based community intervention to provide access to COVID-19 testing in African American neighborhoods in Chicago identified as testing deserts.
METHODS: In collaboration with the Alive Faith Network (AFN), we created a network of church-based COVID-19 testing sites in underserved African American Chicago neighborhoods identified as testing deserts. Sites offered free SARS-CoV-2 polymerase chain reaction-based testing, culturally tailored education, and linkage to care and social resources. Over time, we transitioned to community sites due to

Population ageing and the rising burden of multimorbidity require late-life anxiety and depression to be addressed beyond symptom control. Loneliness, social isolation, restricted activity, and loss of meaningful roles frequently interact with physical illness and functional decline; however, these determinants are not readily modified through conventional clinical care alone. Social prescribing offers a range of supported pathways through which health and care professionals connect individuals with non-clinical community resources, ranging from light-touch referrals to more holistic, relation…

Peucedani Radix is the dried root of Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn (Apiaceae), which is traditionally used for relieving cough and asthma, eliminating phlegm, dispersing wind, and clearing heat. Previous studies on endophytes associated with Peucedanum praeruptorum were largely restricted to specific plant compartments and lacked a comprehensive assessment of endophytic communities across different organs and developmental stages of P. praeruptorum. To investigate the spatiotemporal distribution of endophytic microorganisms in Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn and assess their potential as plant gro

Early childhood is a critical period for overall development and well-being, yet children from low-income and low-resourced families, such as Chinese American immigrant families, often have unmet mental health needs as they face additional barriers like limited English proficiency and health literacy. Cultural and linguistic adaptation is essential for equitable access to resources and care. Despite the need, early childhood mental health among Chinese American families remains significantly understudied. A digital mental health solution may pose greater access and convenience to address the m

The international pediatric oncology community has a long history of research collaboration. In the United States, the 2019 launch of the Children's Cancer Data Initiative puts the focus on developing a rich and robust data ecosystem for pediatric oncology. In this spirit, we present here our experience in constructing the Pediatric Cancer Data Commons (PCDC) to highlight the significance of this effort in fighting pediatric cancer and improving outcomes and to provide essential information to those creating resources in other disease areas. The University of Chicago's PCDC team has worked wit

Numerous studies show that increasing species richness leads to higher ecosystem productivity. This effect is often attributed to more efficient portioning of multiple resources in communities with higher numbers of competing species, indicating the role of resource supply and stoichiometry for biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships. Here, we merged theory on ecological stoichiometry with a framework of biodiversity-ecosystem functioning to understand how resource use transfers into primary production. We applied a structural equation model to define patterns of diversity-productivit

CONTEXT: Self-measured blood pressure monitoring (SMBP) with clinical support is effective at reducing blood pressure for people with hypertension. Although strengths and challenges around SMBP are well-documented, few studies describe the complexities of real-world implementation of SMBP with clinical support in the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting.
PROGRAM: Between 2019 and 2023, the Ohio Department of Health funded the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers to manage a multiyear quality improvement (QI) project with 21 FQHCs. The project aimed to improve the identific
