Self-Bactericidal and Long-Lasting Resin Nanocomposites with Pyrocatalytic Activity Regulated by Oral Temperature Fluctuation.

The design of antibacterial functions in dental resin composites is a key approach to preventing secondary caries. Although conventional composite resins incorporated with antimicrobial agents can indeed exhibit bactericidal effects, these lack long-lasting antimicrobial activity and may exert cytotoxic effects, thus, causing biosafety concerns. Here, we developed a universal, nondestructive, and self-bactericidal strategy for fabricating dental resin nanocomposites without additional devices or power sources. This was achieved by incorporating a ceramic nanofiller with pyrocatalytic activity,…

Fatigue behaviour of a self-healing dental composite.

OBJECTIVE: Novel self-healing resin-based composites containing microcapsules have been developed to improve the mechanical performance of dental restorations. However, the long-term fatigue behaviour of these self-healing composites has still been hardly investigated. Therefore, this manuscript studied the fatigue behaviour of self-healing composites containing microcapsules by subjecting the specimens to traditional staircase tests and ageing in a custom-designed chewing simulator (Rub&Roll) to simulate oral ageing physiologically relevant conditions. METHODS: To prepare self-healing compos

Comparison of shear bond strength of different types of intracanal posts in restoring extensively damaged primary anterior teeth.

BACKGROUND: Severe caries in early childhood is a concern for both children receiving dental treatment and their parents. This dental disease progresses rapidly and quickly damages the coronal part of the tooth. When there is insufficient coronal structure to support a coronal restoration, using intracanal components following root canal treatment increases tooth resistance and helps provide retention for the coronal restoration. This study compared the shear bond strength of three types of intracanal posts (composite resin post, reverse metal post, and fiber post) in severely damaged primary

A one-step additive for dental 3D-printed PMMA resins: Green-synthesized AgNP-doped PVP nanofibers confer mechanical, antifungal, and aesthetic advantages.

The application of 3D manufacturing techniques in dentistry holds significant potential for the fabrication of dental components, such as prosthetic bases. However, 3D-printed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resins often exhibit inferior mechanical strength and a higher susceptibility to Candida albicans biofilm adhesion compared to conventional materials. This study addresses these limitations by developing a novel composite material. We integrated green-synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), using Thymus sp. extract, into polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofibers via electrospinning. These AgN
