Ureteral ectopias, which mostly occur in ureteral duplications, become noticeable in women quite early by characteristic clinical signs (dribble, or urinary incontinence). In males, it is usually only a stenosis-conditioned dilatation of the ureter that results in an uncharacter-istic pattern of complaints. The article presents the clinical pattern of signs and the x-ray findings in a man of 42 year of age, who had not reported any complaints until then, with an excessive dilatation of an extopically discharging single ureter.

In 18 patients with symptomatic cervical stenosis after conization, laser vaporization of the stenotic segment was performed. Total relief of symptoms was achieved in 12 patients and partial relief in four. In seven cases there was no evidence of stenosis at follow-up, and in a further nine cases the degree of stenosis was less. A patient with long-standing biliary complaints and a previous cholecystojejunostomy, reputed to be suffering from primary biliary cirrhosis was, on endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC), found to have several large gallstones proximal to a stenosis in the common bile duct. After endoscopic papillotomy (EPT), and endoscopic hydrostatic dilatation of the stricture, the gallstones were successfully removed by means of an endoscopic stone extractor. After 15 months the patient remains well, with no complaints, and with completely normal liver function tests.

Takayasu's disease preferentially involves the aorta and its branches. Extension along the pulmonary artery is much more rare. In a two year old girl, the authors observed a case of common bile duct dilatation, with jaundice and chronic pancreatitis, in which the common bile duct enters the Wirsung. Because segmental dilatation of the colon causes severe constipation, it has to be included in the differential diagnosis of every constipated child. Heller's cardiomyotomy or one of the modifications are not sufficient in the third stage of achalasia. Additional surgery is required for reversion of the dilated and elongated esophagus. Two patients with third-grade achalasia were treated by cardiomyotomy in combined with esophagomyoplication and followed up for one year. The results were evaluated clinically, radiologically, manometrically, pH-metrically, and endoscopically. We concluded that esophagomyoplication satisfactorily completes cardiomyotomy in cases of third-grade achalasia.

A patient with trigeminal neuralgia caused by direct compression by an elongated basilar artery of the 5th nerve at the zone of entry of its sensory root into the pons is presented. Rhizotomy of the portio major is a treatment of choice in such a case instead of simple microsurgical decompression. The elongated basilar artery is very firm and not readily movable with manipulation.

Following an in vivo lesion of the rabbit thoracic aorta, endothelial regeneration was studied in silver-stained specimens from en face organ cultures of aortic segments with and without intercostal arteries. The in vivo lesion had been inflicted by an embolectomy catheter. Our results confirmed that endothelium regenerates from preexisting endothelium around the mounths of the intercostal arteries.
